light question

so my question is i am only using like 6-7 100w = 23 watt clf's on this plant and it id pretty big should i add more light or just leave it becuase the tops are looking really good now, but the lower stuff on the plant looks like it could use some more light.

this pick was taking like 2-3 weeks ago

If you plan on flowering that plant, your definitely going to want more light. Its going to get 2-3 times the size it is now when it flowers, and 7x23W cfl is only going to be good for growing the main cola, the rest will be fluff.

In short: Yeah you need more light, HPS is King.

ok how many should i use, and its been flowering for 1 month now and seem to be doing ok but i will add like 6-8 more lights.

So you will be running 16x23watts=368 watts for about 16x1700 lumens = 27,200 total Lumens output. a 400 watt HPS will put out 55,000 Lumens. Basically HPS is twice as good as CFL in light output for the same watts. Or in other terms, your paying twice as much on your energy bill to get what a 400W HPS can give you. CFL is great if your doing small cola plants IE sog or Scrog even, but they don't have the penetration to get the lower parts, so everything other than the main cola top is fluffy insubstantial buds. I know that CFL do a great job of vegging, as your photo proves and I have good results as well, but unless you have all your bud sites within 2 inches of the lights they do not flower as well as a HPS.

You could run 9-10 lights and that would be perfect, remember your girl will atleast double during flowering

As lights are the topic. What is everyones opinion on the best light to use for approx 6 plants and the watts? I know HPS are what are being claimed as the best at the time for flowering but im just wondering trying to figure this out.I get you will need diff lights for dif stages cause of the color spectrum but what would be suggested for all the stages?

HPS will do it all, veg and flower. CFL can do it all, even MH, but watt for watt HPS will give you the best overall results.

now i'm still kinda new to growing but the research i've done and the people i talk to who grow, adding more cfl's at 23w or 1600 lumens wont increase your actual lumen output. you now just have more coverage of 1600 lumens over the plant. which more light is always good. but the hps systems seem to be the way to go. as NoDrama stated and 400w hps with put out around 55000 lumens, which is plenty for one plant, which requires aruond 2400 lumens. if hps is too much $, cause you also need a ballast for that, then keep up the cfls and if possible get a higher lumen output cfl. she still looks beautiful bro. keep up the awesome work.
