i'm new at this, a virgin grower in fact, and i've just started setting up a grow space in my closet. w=1.5ft. l=2ft. h=4=ft.

germination is a success and since the vegatative phase is just around the corner, i need help in choosing a lighting system. i already have three 48" 20W fluorescent tubes but im not sure if the light/lumens/lux supplied would be adequate for a healthy growth. about four to six plants can fit inside. are these lights enough? i'm thinking of switching to 40W tubes but i'm not sure if it's neccessary.

budget is tight and HIDs are rare in this 3rd world country of mine.

what do i do, oh, what do i do?

Welcome to the forum. I know, those lights will do fine for seeds. Two weeks down the road you are going to want more light. This gives you time to reserch led,s and t-5's along with the cfl's. Shipping is possible?? You amy wish to check SeeMoreBuds great Book 'Marijuana Buds For Less'. I would recommend it. Garden Knowm has a link to it. I wish I would have had it when I started. VV

if you're in a 3rd world country you can get away with growing outside. takes away the need for spending any money at all.

go with CFLs. cheap and keeps the heat down. and if your grow room is only 1.5 x 2 x 4 i'm not sure how you're gunna get a 48" floro in there?

i agree, i used cfl's for my grow and got 1oz of the 1 plant i grew. excelent for small spaces all i used for ventilation was 2 6" pc fans and they worked fine.

Good Luck :)

LOL my badd, what i meant was 24". turns out 40W tubes only come in 48". my research was a little off course. i guess CFLs are my only option.

i can't grow outside, unfortunately. my country is run by hypocrites. get caught with a couple of seeds or even a bong with resin could land me 20 years.

tnx guys for the info. how many (total) watts of CFLs should i use for healthy babies?

As many as you can jam in there without frying the plants. 150w plus of CFL I'd say.

You might want to think this through....Where are you from like El Salvador? You might want to rethink doing this if the consequences are that great.

If you can fit the longer lights, They make a plastic safty tube that you can put your 4’ lights in. the idea is that if you brake the light in your shop it will not fall allover you. The side effect is that a plant can come in contact with the tube and not be burned in the least.
Take the lights apart and place the baleats out side of the space and you will get very little heat. You can even take off the end contacts and mount them right on to the wall, a strip of plywood, or some strapping. good luck
