Lighting Question

Hi, I was told that plants pretty much want to grow towards the light so is it possible/effective to put the lights on the sides of the plants in veg state to get the plants bushier and to have them get wider then when it becomes flowering state concentrate more of the light to the top?

It's called vertical lighting/side lighting. Works well look it up.
