lighting question

hey everyone,

i was thinking of a idea and wanted to know if it will work.... the led grow lights use red and blue led's and everyone says incandescent lamps wont work for growing, but what about the red and blue colored incandescence, would that create the proper spectrum for suitable growth?

I imagine that if you had a spectrum analyzer, measured the spectrum,(in nanometers) and found them to be within the useable range, you could use them. Trust me, it's waaaay more complicated than you might think, and long story short....the answer is "no". Yes, you could make it work, but, it would be so impractical, that it wouldn't be worth the hassle. :)

the biggest issue is not the spectrum. it puts out alot of heat and the lumens are so little that you can burn the plant just trying to make it grow.

yeah dude its the heat that incandescents emit. in order to crank out the lumens, it becomes yhotter than a mug.i same with halogen.

^True. From what I understand, incandescents have a spectrum superior to all the other types of light we use to grow(except maybe LEDs), except, that they are so inefficient that they're impractical to use for growing. IDK how true that is, it's something that I've come across a few times, in my reading.
