Lighting question.

Hi,
I was wondering if I could veg my 5 auto-flowering plants with a 125 blue spec cfl then put them under a 600w hps? Would there be a big difference if I used a 600w mh for veg in terms of final product?

Thanks in advanced :weed:

yes you would likely do a little better with the 600 mh as the plants will veg faster with the more available heat and light. So yeah the answer to your question is yes, but if you are only flowering the 600 hps, go with a smaller MH, like a 400, or a 250 if they have those. 125 seems a little small for 5 plants but they will likely flower quickly so it could be OK.

You need about 100 watts to veg each of the five plants. So you need allot more blue spectrum light added (400 watts). MH or CFL would be he cheapest route. A 600 watt HPS would be perfect to flower all that bud yes!

Who thought of the 100 watt rule per plant and why did they spread it around the internet?
Calculate lumens per sqft... 2100 is requires to sustain photosynthesis 5k min for decent bud..sun averages 7 and is what you should aim for..10k consistently can bleach most strains, being the sun at its absolute strongest (plants have adapted to be able to handle the sun...obviously)
Now see how much space you have, how close you can put your plants together etc.... really not a big deal

I prefer cfl over mh..
