Hi guys I'm sure this question has been answered many of times and there has been quite a debate about what lights are best so here's my question

Veg:Either a Mh....or a dual spectrum bulb..or a ceramic Mh

Flower:Hps...or a dual spectrum bulb...or a ceramic Mh

So it a case of the traditional Mh for veg and hps for flower

Or dual spectrum bulb for both veg/flower

Or ceramic Mh for both veg/flower

Also what type of ballast allows me to change a hps for a Mh
I think it's called a conversion bulb
Would this work on both digital and magnetic ballasts
And what's the difference between the two ballasts what are the benefits of both

And BTW...I don't want to come off as a dickhead so please understand I am offering a suggestion...yes this and many other questions you may have , have been asked and answered 100's if not 1000's of times on RIU. The search function is your friend.

Cheers for the reply I'm green when it comes to growing I have a lot of information I've made notes of I've been researching for about a year on growing and different setups and systems etc thing is no matter how much you know there's always more to learn

About this ballast thanks for the link I'm looking into a 400 in a 3x3 setup so would this ballast be compatible or would I get a smaller one

For example if I ran the 400Watt bulb on the 1000watt ballast without dimming it's output is 400Watt and if I dimmed it to 50% it would have a output of 200watt

If this is the case it would be a great investment as it gives me flexibility If/when I would like a bigger grow room

AHHH An newbie after my own heart! READ,READ,READ, and then READ some more! No better growing tool than knowledge.

To answer the query...I don't see any point to running a 400wbulb in a 1000w dimmable ballast...why not use the ballast for what it is designed to do and get the 1000w? In a 3 x 3 cooling and ventilation of any HID is going to be an issue as well. You can get an entire set up...bulbs, ballast, cool tube, and fan for about $250.00 give or take on ebay

Just read up its not good to run the 400Watt in the 1000w ballast burns out the bulb quicker and is not safe

Im working with a 3x3 footprint and a 400 watt is perfect for me at this time I'm not planning on using a air cooled hood or using a active intake I will have a passive intake

I figure my Temps will be fine for the 400 watt I will have extraction fan hooked up with a carbon filter smell is a big issue where I'm located

So would you think I'm better off getting the 400watt digital Mh/hps ballast

I don't plan on going bigger than a 400 watter due to my electric charges I have a coin meter and €2 gives me 6kwh I've worked it out and I can't afford to run anything bigger

If I had half the chance I'd run as many lights as I had rooms lol

Well...not to self promote but I am running 400w w/cool tube in a 36" x 20" x 60" tent...take a look at my journal.

OH GEEZE!!!! Thanks for starting this thread....I just put my gurlz into flowering today and neglected to switch my MH to my HPS...just did it, Thanks again!
