Im a new grower My first plant is growing good right now. I dont know if this is a dumb question or not but can you use regular house bulbs(Soft White, etc.) to grow weed? or can you use heat lamps? and what about UV type lights?

Incandescent (standard bulb) gives off too much heat and light in the wrong spectrum. You can get compact floros (CFLs) in the right spectrum for veg and flower. Heat Lamps are not good and UV lights can be used during flower for increased resin production but not worth looking into for newbs.

Those lights wont work,.The house bulbs can be used if they are cfl with highout puts regualr bulb no..Go get couple 4 ft flor shop lights to start seeds and young plants and get at least a 400 watt hps for flowering.Total can be gotten for under $100

Check out Major Tokes grow journal. If you are asking about a 500 watt or better halogen light for a grow, I would question weather you could possible know everything you need except for the lights. $100. bucks ya right lol. VV

For all of those that are trying to figure out how many cfl's to use, I defer to the master. In his great book, "Marijuana Buds For Less", the author SeeMoreBuds explains with pictures and text how he used 8 42 watt cfl's to grow 8oz of bud from 3 female plants. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you could use 8-42 watt light to grow three plants. VV
