Location of inline fan to light/carbon scrubber

Setting up a 400 watt CMH next week in my flower room, Trying to figure out the best way to vent it

Right now I have a 6" inline booster pulling hot air out of the room and out of the window. I want to keep that in place as it would be a disaster taking it all apart.

I know I need a better fan for the 400W so I'm looking at the inline duct fans similar to vortex but not quite as expensive, Roughly around 400CFM is what the 6" seem to be running.

I don't have my carbon scrubber picked out yet, Wanted to pick out a fan first and then pair them accordingly


My question is should my inline fan be pulling at the carbon scrubber and blowing through my light hood or should it be on the other side (same side as duct booster) pulling through the light?


Keep in mind the duct will not actually be bent like this lol :blsmoke:

What is the brown rectangle on right? And what is on the other side of the scrubber?

venting hot air directly outside through a vent makes you vulnerable to FLIR, you'd be better off venting it some other way.

I have heard this a couple times - Is FLIR used in the US?

Also I have the same question. Im thinking of putting the 6 in flex pipe next to light. The Flex pipe goes to Filter filter goes to Fan and vents int atticc underneth the roof ridge vent. Does this seem reasonable?

As I think bout it the other way would be to vent down into the garage. but this would reguire a fan to push hot air down - not sure if this would be too ineficient. Seems mor logical to go up. but the benefit is - garage gets heated in winter and spreads the heat

Yes it is over areas they think / deem hot spots. However not to much any more in legal states. Some states will do it in non legal states will doing fly overs during some months.

You don't need to worry about flir with a 400w, and 400cfm is overkill for that wattage as well. You can get away with 200 cfm (real cfm, not some bs duct booster cfm) even with a 600w, no problem -- unless you live in a hot climate.

...you might not need to worry and then again, who knows what them assholes will do.

...it ain't legal yet so it is a very bad idea to develop lazy habits, ...if you value your freedom that is.

...it ain't paranoia if they really are out to get you, and they are man, they live for the rush they get busing your door down and putting your face into the floor as they handcuff you, ...that's who they are man, forget that at your own peril!

I will be using a Ceramic Metal Halide which is "supposed" to run cooler. Also have an AC in the room, So I don't know how hot the air will be that is coming out or if it would be enough to raise an alarm. But better safe than sorry


I figured 400CFM was over kill, But I could always get a speed controller. I also have a few more bends than I would like in the Duct I will have to deal with so I will need all the CFM I can to make up for that

Actually it is legal here. A 400w puts out less heat than a small space heater.
