Looking for advice on flood&drain/ebb&flow

:leaf:hey all,

I'm trying my hand at a flood/drain system. i just did a trial run with just the water, hydroton and pots. 5 gallons seems to do the trick and the water from the pump seems to reach the overflow tube within a minute or so. It drains pretty quick, but there's still maybe 1/2 an inch of water at the bottom of the tub that the pots are sitting in. Should I be worried about this growing mold or should the plants/hydroton soak that up through the day? I had terrible luck with DWC because i began growing stuff in the res. I dont want to mess up again!

also, how many times should the tub be flooded each day? I was thinking around twice?

and, how much H202 per gallon? and do i "top off" during the week with H202 as well?

Thanks! :peace:

well if there is water laying on the bottom all the time i would be flooding more than twice to flush that water sitting there.

i have a ebb and flow system with a res and a top tup a made a lid an cut 100mm holes for the 3 inch pots and i grow in rockwool i flood mine evry 2 hours and i am usally left with a half inch of water in the bottom. that the roots sit in

when there small plants i flood the tub all the way up to my lid until the roots start growing out the bottom of pots then i put a shorter overflow pipe in an flood just under the 3 inch pots so the rockwool is not wet all the time.

dunno if that helps but thats what i do.

i done a grow in clay pebble once i had a feeder ring round the plants and watered 24/7 until i pulled the plant

That makes sense. I do remember reading something about making sure the rockwool cube isnt getting soaked during flood. thanks for the input!

anyone else have an opinion?

for my table i put about 2 inches of hydroton on the bottom of the table and cover it from end to end and have my plants in hugo 6 by 6 rockwool blocks and set them on top ...the roots will grow thru the rockwool and then into the hydroton so there is never root bound issues .....this will help for a while if your table is leaving some water in the table...this way works alot better for me then covering the whole cube with hydroton and it alows u alot more room for sog grows

I did invest in that. foot long stones in each res. I hope that does indeed help out with growing shit! :)

I thought about doing it that way. but as i need to move the pots to different res. i can't have them rooting in hydroton directly in the tub. I heard you can get more room by doing that, but I take 8" clones and they can get pretty big. thanks for the input!

anyone else?
