Back once again...
It's been some time, and I have a lot more experience compared to when I first started out here.

This's my grow Journal for Low Ryder #2, here's a quick run down of my methods so far and the items I am using.

Germination started on the 17th of Feb, 2010 via damp paper towel method, within 24 hours, 4 out of 5 seeds germinated. To date, one's failed to germinate & has started to attract mold.

Here's my set up:

  1. Handbuilt enclosure at a cost of about £30, (the material used isn't particularly reflective, but I have used similar before with good results, it's mostly to prevent light spill due to nosey neighbours.)
  2. 150 watt Envirolight for seedling stage.
  3. 400 watt HPS for flowering stage
  4. GT 424 NFT tray
  5. Ionic Grow HW
  6. Ionic Bloom HW
  7. P.H down, obviously.

Day 8

Quick observation: Some slight discolouration on one or 2 of the seedlings, slight stretch on one or 2, but nothing worrying. Placed plastic within propergator so that seedlings are situated higher.

Other than that...

Nothing major, seedlings on their second set of leaves, third lot visable, just.

Decreased humity & included fan, not blowing directly on seedlings.

4th (& final) seedling due to be transfered to 3 inch rockwool.

Day 15

Nothing impressive, re-adjusted PH as it had climbed to around 7, lowered to 6.4.

Yesterday, introduced new light schedule, was previously 24/0 but now 20/4, as growth's been slow.

Plain PH'd water in the resevoir.

I have realised that I've messed my days up a little, it's easy to lose track of time. =o)

According to my calendar I am actually 2 weeks, and 5 days from seed! Plants are still small.

I've also had to devote the 150 watt envirolight to my smallest plant, thus meaning I've had to dig the HPS out early.

I have a new bit of growth within the past few days, but will next do a picture update when they're a little more exciting!

I've lowered my PH a little, to about 6 / 6.2, so it's within range from my Ionic nutrient.

I've also added a tiny bit of nutrient to the resevoir, after doing a nutrient change yesterday, which I let settle over night, and acclimatise to room temperature. =o)

dude they look ok for what you got but i assure you that you might wanna add them to the 400 watts asap. I've seen some on their 4th set of leaves at day 15 :peace:

quick question have you pre soaked the rock wool with PHed water, i've seen better growth from an aero half this time around 10 days or so. So im just tryna figure out why yours are'nt booming especially in hydro. Alright brotha well i hope all works out.

Hi, initially no, i couldn't PH the water as I was that impatient and couldn't wait for my ph tester to arrive =o)

I DID promise myself that I'd be patient this time.

However I did soak the 3 inch rock wool in ph adjusted water, and everything since has been ph'd.

Aero's supposed to have quicker growth than nft, but in all honesty I think I'm always trying to be ahead of myself, and rushing things a little, this grow was meant to be about doing things properly, but still, I'm trying to cut corners.

I've made a right mess of my days, I've ammended a post, I am actually 2 weeks, 5 days, from seed, not 3 weeks, 3 days. lol

I've had quite a bit of growth in the past few days, especially since I included the hps, and altered my light schedule to 20 light, 4 dark.

Pic update in 2 days, I'll be fair to the lil guys, (well, girls).

Thanks for your input =o)

All is well brotha i understand the difficulties with nft and hydro in general. Thats why i stay soil all organic. I find it to be way more forgiving even though you can obtain better results with hydro but at a higher risk of loosing control of the process.

Also i feel yuh on the patience dude i didn't have any till i started growing vegetables herbs, but it's all the same patience in this field will give you better finished product which is essential what you after. So take a few more secs to make the taste, potency, and look perfect.

I find 18/6 gives them to process the light better from the day.

Basic Hydro's not as hard as people lead on to believe, not that I personally have a basis to judge, as I have the bare minimum equipment, no wand, no extraction, or air intake, just a fan, & hope. lol, the same hope that's worked for me time again though.

After a few years of hydro, I am thinking of returning to soil on the next grow for a while, as I could probably fit 8 plants in the space my tray's taking, and the tray can only cater for 5. =o)

Plus I started out with soil, rushed that, and chopped too early =o) It's time to perfect.

By organic, do you make your own nutrient, or use the current line of organic neuts? If I remember correctly from seeing if you had any pics, you're a cfl'er aren't you? What's your best yield with cfl & organic combined?

One thing that always put me off soil, wa sthe bugs that I had, and I was foolish enough to have a few soilies in the same room as my hydro, and ended up with these white bugs that lived on top of water, I was anything but impressed!

I am a believer in the fact that even the lower THC content strains can be amazing & impressive if grown right, and this is the grow that's officially gonna escape the "shall I, shall I not" chop it now saga, when a few days extra will make a big difference.

18/6 is tempting, and to be honest, I may end up going with that, should the temperaturehere keep on rising =o)

Have you ever grown LR 2?

In a bizzle, & regards =o)

Yea i had used an aero a while back and found it to be a little demanding, at the time my job didn't give me much time so i had to go with the more practical option in my case which was soil.

I meant that i use no chemical fertz just natural organic fertz like bat guano for instance is one i use for flowering to give K at a vital time for the buds. And no 400 watt mh/hps

If you keep the temps at 75-80 and R/H pretty high and make sure to mist plants often you should have no probs with mites or flies for that matter.

Most certainly bro. I've grown bag seed from some schwag and grew it in almost optimal conditions and got some good heady smoke.

yea bro 18/6 im going with for the first month then prolly to save on elec bill drop down to 14/10

Yea i've had Ak47, easy ryder, and lr2

good female ration with the ak47 non fem seeds 8/10 1 didnt pop and the other had a prob with getting the shell off anf eventually rotted and died after a week. So i reaally got 8/8 females 100%. It was the only time i needed a male to get a seed run....Just my luck ayy well i can't complain more ladies for me :blsmoke:

3 weeks, 3 days

Ok, so I'm 3 weeks, 3 days from seed...

PH has only fluctuated once during the week, otherwise it has been sitting at 6.2.

The tallest of the plants has started to show signs of being a female, and I'd estimate that another two have another 5 ish days before they confirm what they're meant to be... =o)

I'm pretty certain that I have heat issues, I have nothing to read temperature, but something's gotta be done! =o)

Yesterday was nutrient change, but upon cleaning pump had an impellor disaster, so I had to head off out to get some superglue, and the impellor's glued, and has been sat in water for a good few hours, to remove any possibile loose residue.

My camera pictures are poor quality, (3MP) and kinda make the plants look like they are lacking nitrogen, but I can confirm that this isn't the case.

I will be removing the eco light within the next week that's confined to my smallest plant, and will be repositioning the hps to cater for all =o)

What was your growth like in Aero, I have thought about Aero but soil's definately looking set for the next grow, which will be ages away, as there's been a case of "the pesky flies" (helicopters) REAL close, and I don't like adding to the current paranoia :o:?:cry:

I'm liking the concept of organic, more so after speaking to you, it was something I just though "f**k that" before,

What's organic do for taste / yield, being more natural, or is it more the point of a principle, or a belief?

I have half researched bat guano, but with me & my vegetable drainer mind, what goes in = soon forgotten!! :-o

I'll bare this in mind, fo' sho, I have "leaf fed" plants before in addition, and I was quite impressed.

I have grown on 2 occaisions White Russian, (AK 47 x Widow) and flowered on a 9 hour light shedule, and I was more than happy with the yield, I don't particularly think it affected it that much, second time round I think I became to PK 13 / 14 happy, and ended up with a massive bud on the tallest plant's main cola =o)

I guess it was sheer greed, the want for even bigger buds, I should be grateful that I got anything at all!!

Yea i've had Ak47, easy ryder, and lr2
If you're refering to the AK 47 autoflower cross, I've been looking up on this, and I am impressed at how much better yield it appears to reward over the LR2,

What's your favourite out the 3?

I was reading someone else's AK 47 grow with regular seeds, the person had 10, germed four, and had 3 females, that I like to hear.

I have yet to do a seed run, and tbh honest although I like the idea, I think I prefer the concept of clones, that said I haven't seen what my LR2's are going to yield yet, don't get me wrong, I know what to roughly expect, but seeing is believing and all... :-o:weed:

4 weeks 2 days

Over the last week the plants have had a big growth spurt, with new visable growth each day.

I guess the slow start's well worth the explosion of growth that I've had.

they're all showing signs of being female, and I'm considering switching to Ionic bloom now.

Updated pics.

I thought the burnt plant's death was imminent, but it's made a 100% recovery, amazingly.

Nutrient change today, cleaned equipment, and leaving water to settle, will PH then add nutrient later on.

(if my memory serves me correct)

Internet's been beyond sh*t, hence late update...

A bit of stretching, which I assume's normal for this strain, as my lights are not too far away.

I have one plant that's getting lesser light, could really do with either a 600w, or another 400w minimal, but I gotta ride with what I have for now.

Sticking with 150ml of Ionic Bloom, as they're a healthy enough green, I feel as though if I go any higher, they'll be getting to much nitrogen.

Light period's now 8 in the morning, until 12 at night, (yeah, i know it shouldn't be changed as often as what I have) but with current issues, it's ideal.

The "runt" of the "litter" has made vast recovery, you'd never be able to tell that at one point, it was behind!

I've also resisted the taking off of leaves, I normally under go a heavy pruning. lol

Ph's steady, staying at 6.2 without needing to be altered any, all week, which is allegedly a known quality of Ionic from what I have read! =o)

So how're they coming along? Interested in opinions...

When should I start issuing PK 13 /14? =o)

Ok I officially give up trying to keep track of how many days and weeks, I've alot going on out of choice...

Plants are developing well, and rather tall, next update I'll include the height and what not,

All plants have small, but developing buds, all's looking good.

Hermaphrodite free so far, and I've the odd hair that's starting to turn colour =o)

A little leaf curl from heat, as I allowed the light to remain too close for a little while, but no burn of any sort, either by heat or nutrient.

Increase in THC production, ripening slowly, just waiting for the buds to fatten up some more.

I estimate about 3 more weeks til chop, meaning that I will have gone ove rthe nine week period, but I did have a slow start.

Odour's increasing.

Growth even, healthy.

These are definately anything other than low, but they've finally appeared to have stopped growing height wise.
