yeah, give it a coupe days and the part above where you tied it down will be standing straight up. I drilled holes into the rim of my pots and I tie my plants down all over the place and wrap the plant around the pot. Just don't push it to hard at one time and snap anything lol. I've ripped off leaves trying to tie leafs down to hard.
 
The only wrong way to LST is if you damage the plant i.e. snapping stems or tying strings so tight it gouges into the stem. As long as they're bent over with light reaching the lower parts of the plant, you're LST'ing correctly.

BUT....be aware that some strains don't respond very well to LST. My Blackberry seems as though it was bred to LST. My Swiss Cheese responded OK, but not nearly as much as the BB. I've read SC doesn't produce as many side branches so that could explain it, or it could just be weaker genetics.
