Lumens per watt.....

are those bulbs self ballasted cause i saw them at home depot and it didnt look like it would do much then just produce a good amount of heat......juss wondering

From site: "No separate ballast is required for these lights, they simply screw into a standard E40 fitting (normal grow light lampholder) and run directly through a mains plug."

No noticable heat but one bright as fuck flouresent light.


So im told this is high performance and pumps out more than 7000 lumens + The room is mylared up...am i good?

And would switching to the same type (125w flouresent eco light) but red for the flower be good?

My understanding is its not the watts or heat, its the lumens that matter....true?

How much are those in US dollars, just for comparison sake...

You talk like 7000 lumens is a lot. It's not.

A 70w hps throws 6000 lumens, and you never see me suggest anyone use a 70w hps just like you never see me suggest cfl's.(unless for some odd reason that's the only option, which is rarely the case.)

A 150w hps throws 15000-16000 lumens, and your light is using 125w to get 6000 so it's not doing good at all as far as lumens per watt you're talking practically half the lumens as a comparable HPS of the same wattage.

On and BTW, 10k lumens per sf is the ideal, so that flouro would be perfect in a .7 cubic foot grow.

About $29, good for you, bad for me. Ye i hear 10k is a summers day. My problems are ventilation and energy bill which was £1400 last year WITHOUT any hyro.

Ok but don't short yourself too much here. If you are going to use those, use enough of them for your area. You can stretch that to covering two sf, but then your growth rate and yield is halved and you could have gotten more using it over one plant in a 1sf area.

Realize that if electric is a concern you should be going HPS because you get nearly double the lumens (or more) for the same amount of power, so that is the most efficient way to go. (well except a pulse start halide, slightly more efficient but expensive bulbs.)

But I realize in your area HPS lights aren't cheap... Just at least think about my advice about not shorting yourself on light for the space you plan to use.

The area is 2x2 9ft high and one plant in the middle on an NFT set-up...as im learning you see. Ill be using a 250w light for flower although not sure if its a HPS as it will be borrowed.

When you say stretched over 2sf you mean the total plant coverage or room space?
