Lux and watt meter usage

I purchased a watt meter to check my consumption. 533 watts at the wall. 11 23watt cfl and a vipar600. My lux meter read 41000 lux at about 8" from the vipar. I'm wanting to get some fairly good readings with this if possible. Any help is appreciated. Like to compare this data with how my DIY COB fixture is going to perform

thats not to good, not sure what COBs are, but Its probably around 100,000 at 8inches.

Yes it's blurple,

man, all he is asking is what the lux reading is of a cob.

regardless if its useless or not, it still measure light. and a good baseline for people that have only lux meters and not $500 PAR meters.

You have cobs im sure, what is the lux reading at 8inches and 18inches with a 4000k?

that vipar is using 300 real watts,

I hacked my Mars 300 that gets 200,000+lux at 8inches
and 2000 par at 17 inches.

My light is 24 inches from plant, and that is 1300 par, 60,000 lux

125 watts

I just checked, with my 6"exhaust fan and a regular fan plus my vipar I'm running 280watts. I checked the luxe again at 8 inches when I wasn't High....86500 lux at 24" it is 27000 lux directly below the light. I do not have a COB setup yet

I thought it would be interesting to actually see the differences,?many of us noobs are starting with these cheap O lights and we r getting decent results but I've got the COB bug and I wanna see better results with the same or less watts. I have yet to have seen any BIG ASS colas with Chinese lights. So I'm forking over the money to see for myself. This is what I'm growing now....about 2 weeks from harvest with some fox tailing.

I have the COB bug too, just to expensive for me, so I went the strip route. Ordered 20 today actually.

Im 37 days into flower fight now, so seeing what this light does till finished. Think i might hit at least 1gpw,

A lumen meter would be fine to compare blurple lights to each other but not to anything else. Blurple lights don't really produce much green light (which is mostly what a lumen meter measures) So a blurple light and a cob light could be emitting the exact same amount of photons, but the blurple light would score very low on a lumen(lux) meter. Even measuring cobs of different color temperatures in lumens is problematic. A 50w 5000k cob will score way higher than a 50w 2700k cob. Luckily there are conversion charts onsite to give you the approximate ppfd for the color temperature of a given cob that you may have measured in lux..

your meter is a good tool to see where the light is strong and where the weak spots are in your setup,but thats about it really

Yes it definitely can do that, it showed me that my reflective walls are working. My light tapers off as it nears the walls but then increased right at the walls.

Here is today. I GML stripped at day 15 of flip, and then again at 34 days flip. Im not cutting nothing off from now till harvest.

I had 4 in here, 2 males, so chopped them. But this is before at 30 days i think from seed.

You see i have 5 diodes out to. I put in 32 4000k diodes, and 6 fullspectrum diodes.

I know it dont look like much.

Ive put these plants thru hell, with different stresses, from bad PH early on, ( switched to PHperfect AN) in week 2 i think it was.

Ive never grew the taller strain, looks like a rutawalace hybred,

I counted 40 tops, and 170 bud sights. This is only 125 watts.

In 1 week, it will look like a giant bush, this right side plant throws off leaves like a mad woman.

The right side plant didnt show sex either for like 17 days from flip, so its only been showing flowers for 2 weeks. Then i stripped leaves before bud sight establishment, so that slowed down alot of sights, or totally stopped them.

yeah, 2 inch round.. I meant the right plant above to, i fixed it..

The plant on the left side, I wasnt going to keep, and set aside, I topped it and then didnt water. Its in coco too, and got feather light, then decided to keep it. watered it and grow like 10inches in a few days.

I dont think i like Coco.

Might go back to Foxfarm ocean and kindsoil mix, maybe with coco mixed in too.. The water only aspect was awesome, lol..

I dont really see a big difference personally. I grew out some FireOG in FFOC and kindsoil and it was great, but not with this light.
