Mainline flowering time

How tall should you grow your plants before flowering if doing a mainline grow? I am currently using nugbuckets method I grew them with 8 tops and grew them 20 inces tall attatched them to my ring at 14 inches and lollipoped everything below the ring seems to be doing good I seen a thread were someone grew eight heads and started flowering after they grew just 6 inches does this work better or worse

NUGBUCKETS recommends they reach the ring before flowering but ultimately it depends upon your lighting wattage.

This last run I done a 4 headed and flowered before adding the ring.

It doesn't matter when the ring is added its there to keep shape and to train to.
