Making feminized seeds, saving a strain

i'm growing some hindu kush bagseed and it's turning out reeeally nice, a lot better than i expected (30 days into flower). i have a clone that has rooted and has almost trippled its size and is growing vigorously now (only about 6inches tall tho so far). i've never done this, but if i spray colloidal silver and put it to 12/12 it'll make female pollen sacs. if i let that clone self pollinate, will i have made feminized seeds that are a copy of that pheno? i have this idea of making a tiny seed plant out of it and having that strain for later runs. please correct me if i'm misunderstanding anything

According to the above site, you're right. They also mention another method called Rodelization. The summary is that at the end of her life an unfertilized female's self preservation instinct kicks in, so a similar process happens naturally. So you may be able to get feminized seeds from every one of your plants!

I wonder what would happen if you used the silver on your female plants right before they die, maybe you could get a ton of seeds?

I hope you try every method and it works like i think it should. Please let me know what happens.

bump for extreme interest.
I read more about colloidial silver, you can even use it on the bottom nodes of your plant at the end of the life cycle and still have something smokeable on the top, but you have to be really careful not to touch anything you smoke with it.

more info here http://www.stonerhaven.com/topic/2430-breeding-with-colloidal-silver-question/
To answer your question about a copy of the pheno, seems like you might have to back cross with the mother plant once to be absolutely sure, but the likelyhood of success even before that step is going to be high.

Are you going to do this?

No it will be a mix of genes that pheno has. The recessive and dominant traits may switch what shows. But there will definitely be beans that you will get that will be identical as there are only so many ways genetics of a single plant can swap around. Itll also show you the stability of the pheno you have if anything weird comes out of the offspring.

Leaving them so long they hermie is a bad way to get seeds. You really want to pollinate early so the seeds are viable and have the full length of time they need to develop.

heres how that bagseed is turning out so far, the clone i'm talking about is in the background of the second picture on the right side

Sorry I gave you information you didn't like, I'm still learning what's good and what's not so I just sort of said everything I know.

The bud looks great, your seed plant looks healthy... but I just have to know... is that an actual christmas tree in the background on the left in the second picture

I would also like to know what kind of lights you're using, is that a flash from the camera or is that the light you are using normally? What kind of soil are the plants in?

Can I see a close up when you put the collodial silver on?

no worries, we're here to share info and learn :bigjoint:i appreciate the reply
i guess it could be used as a christmas tree, it's a kind of conifer. i looked it up one time but i don't remember exactly what it is, and it was mislabeled at the nursery. very fast growing, topped it once and it still shot up 20-30 ft high
i'm growin outdoors so i guess technically that is the light i'm using normally lol, soil is orchard brand potting soil (first and last time using it, it is sandy and giving me problems. i use dr earth home grown typically)
i'll buy some colloidal silver this week and take pics next weekend, that clone is growing ridiculously fast

heres another pic of the girls with that "christmas" tree in the background
also you can see the (thirsty) sister of these two still in veg to the right and another clone experiment to the left

With Soma's method the idea is to get late flower bananas and use those the next round to pollinate. Not a recommendation, just saying.

if i let that clone self pollinate, will i have made feminized seeds that are a copy of that pheno?
Although it's a shortcut to getting something close to it, it's usually not an exact copy, especially not with the not-so-homozygous crosses nowadays.

For example, let's say it's has a fat bud trait which is dominant, so we'll refer to it as B. The trait may express itself in the plant you got as Bb or BB (and not bb). If it's Bb (heterozygous) and cross it with itself, you get (punett square) 25% BB, 50% Bb, and 25% bb in the offspring. Meaning you get 75% fat bud phenotypes, and the 25% would not have fat buds.

In short, it will be a copy only for the traits that are stable (homozygous, same alleles.. google :) )

Woah, if that tree is 20-30ft high then your girls must be around 10ft tall. Do you have any more pictures to share, from this angle it looks like you have the worlds largest single cannabis bush in existence, although I think I can kind of see 5 or 6 large stem structures.

Do you use a hormone when you clone? I have some bontone indole 3 butryic acid powder that some other members here seem to like (though gel seems to be better).

And how much water do I give a thirsty plant in her own pot?

Is this the soil you like? http://www.amazon.com/Dr-Earth-808-Bagtainer-13-Quart/dp/B005ZWD352

What product do you plan to use? I have read that you can make your own with some batteries, water and nickels but somehow that just seems like a terrible idea.

I read in this guide http://www.420magazine.com/forums/completed-journals/155554-producing-feminized-seeds-using-colloidal-silver.html
that this stuff works
http://www.amazon.com/Bio-Silver-Ultra-Colloidal-Silver-ppm/dp/B003LUP4Q6
I think you can buy a strong solution if you want but it seems to be important to dilute to around 40-50 ppm, I'm still trying to find out why.

I'm going to see if i can find this stuff local and buy some myself, maybe it works on geraniums too.

lol, my plants are about 3' tall, maybe a little more and theres 2 of them. theyre raised up a couple feet off the ground
heres a pic of one of them, was taking a pic of yellowing leaves tho so i didnt get the top cola in the pic. also you can see a plant growing in one of those bagtainers from the link you asked about

they don't make the rooting hormone i'm using anymore and i really should just get more but i also want to try using honey instead
heres a link to the newer version of what i'm using
http://www.gardentech.com/All-Products/rootboost-rooting-hormone/Overview

heres a link to the soil i use
http://drearth.net/products/organic-soils/home-grown-potting-soil/

this is a pic of the plant thats still in veg, going to prune this one soon. it gives you a good idea of size, this was planted the same day as the other 2 that are flowering

how much water depends on your pot size and moisture retention of your soil

and as far as the colloidal silver, i was gonna use whatever they have at sprouts

Nope that's about it. It's quite easy actually. Here is a thread of mine where I made my own Colloidal Silver and i've been making and collecting pollen from all of the girls in my possession.

Why is one in the vegetative state while the others are flowering and grown at the same time. (I have a similar situation with two geraniums growing next to each other in the sun)
I thought that flowering was essentially controlled by the amount of light, but if you're outdoors how do you get anything other than a 12/12 and what else could cause one to veg while the other flowers?

I also noticed in the second plant some of the leaves at the bottom look yellow, is that because they don't get as much light or some kind of nutrient imbalance?

You said one of your plants is thirsty.
How can I tell which plants need water, looking at the pictures you showed me both look healthy (except for a few odd yellow leaves in the second).
Can you draw on the picture to help me see what you're talking about.

which kind of silver did you find at sprouts and when are you going to apply it?

These questions probably seem really basic to you but I would really appreciate your answers.

i put the 2 that are flowering in a dark room 12 hours a day and i put them outside at civil twilight. the vegging one just stays there and it will flower right where it is at the right time of year

as for the yellowing, plants store potential energy as nutrients in the leaves. when they put energy into new growth, much of it comes from what is stored in those leaves. when you feed your plant, you're topping off its reserves of energy so it can put more work into new growth. different nutrients affect different types of growth, that's why we help them along by feeding them different things at different stages of life. when your plant is not being fed enough, it starts to take the energy it needs from the reserves in the leaves. this of course all relies on LIGHT, anything that doesn't get light will not be useful to the plant (no photosynthesis) and it will focus its energy elsewhere, wherever the most light is. the plant you're referring to is a little low on nitrogen and has grown to block its own light so it is essentially defoliating itself

plants leaves will start to droop when they need water (turgor pressure) but it's much better to judge by your soil moisture.
i circled the drooping plant i was talking about

you can stick your finger an inch or two into the soil, if it is dry it needs some water. or you can use a moisture meter which is particularly useful for measuring the moisture at the bottom of the pot (also can be done with finger, this prevents root rot due to over watering). how much water depends on the plants needs, container size, and drainage/moisture retention of your medium

haven't made it down to sprouts for the colloidal silver yet, this is what i'm expecting though
