Males from Females

I am just starting out and i have a general question to ask if i could get some help.
At what age of the plant can you tell if it male or female? I know it is female when it begins to bud, but i want to know if you can tell a diffrence before the flowering process.
If you can tell... how?
Thanks

once the plant is mature enough it will show preflowers. i have seen some anywhere from 4 weeks into veg and others took 6 weeks or more to show. sometimes you need to use your jewelers loupe to see the preflowers. heres a link for the growfaqs. read up and enjoy.

When left to veg long enough, they will eventually show signs of sex. Problem with this though is you don't know how long it'll take, and the plants might grow pretty big while you are waiting. How long exactly will depend mostly on genetics. The quickest way to find out is to take a clone of the plant(s) in question, then flower the clones to determine sex.
