Mars 300 to Cree COB DIY hack. advice please.

I'm thinking about converting 2 mars hydro 300's to Cree Cob's for a 2'x'3 closet.

Each mars has 2 drivers, both capable of driving 86 volts. 1 of the drivers operates the fan.

For one Driver (without the fan) I'm thinking: 2 Cree cbx3590 3500k (36volts each, 72volts total)

Other driver (with the fan): 1 Cree cbx3590 3500K, 4 philips luxeon ES deep red 3watt, and 4 philips luxeon ES royal blue 3 watt (total 60v .. should be plenty of room to operate fan as well)

thoughts? suggestions? something you would do differently?

Here are the drivers.

Well i have 2 drivers.. both are 86V max. .. I would like to put 2 cbx3590's on each driver, but im afraid if i put 2 cbx3590's on the same driver that runs the fan i will overload that driver .. so i figured i would just use 2 on 1 driver, and 1 on the other, and then add some supplemental lighting.

i did see a thread somewhere where Supra (i believe that's his name.. he seemed pretty reputable) threw some of those deep red's and royal blue's in the mix

and like i mentioned, it's 2 mars 300's in a 2x3' area. so if i modify them both i will have 6 cbx3590's in that little area with a bunch of smaller supplemental lights. i feel like it will be more than enough, but im more than willing to listen to other people's input.

Running at 640mA, I believe the forward voltage is like 34ishV. So not enough room for another CXB, but definitely enough for other stuff. What's your fan need? And in general, the closer you are to the full voltage the more efficiently it runs, so I say push that envelope.

And yeah, SupraSPL is super legit. I was just excited to read the thread. (;

Good question on the fan. I'm not sure to be honest. I did pop the cover off of the light fixture and I saw the top of the fan and there was no specifications for it on top but maybe I can pull the whole thing out and there will be some specifications on the underside

Really interested in trying this. Ive got a Viparspectra 300 that I'm gonna keep intact, but I can get another for dirt cheap to try this with. The little 300 does ok in my little tent for veg, but I don't think it's gonna have the goods to push these two plants through flower.

I got a vipar 450 I'll probably convert later.

I found out my fan on the Mars draws 1.68 watts give or take 10%. I could just go all cxb"s 3500k with no reds or blues.. haven't decided yet.. 8 cxb's with in a 3x2' would be pretty heavy I think

You are at 640mA, but it's pretty close to this info. (I'm using the DIYCOBLEDCalculator.jar ) You'd have to have it high up/dimmed for veg, but it's great for flower. You are right around the spot where increasing it more than that would require CO2. (1100PPFD, I believe)
