MarsHydro 300w

Hey guys, just wanted to see if anyone has any opinions/reviews on the newer model MarsHydro with the 5w diodes. If you have personal experience, would love to hear. I'm starting a small (one plant) personal grow in a 2x2x5 grow tent. Im sure there are better quality lights out there, but at this price point, is it a decent light for a stealth one plant grow?

Ask @REALSTYLES I've heard that he was using them.

No it's not stealthy. It sounds like a fighter jet and the heat it puts out is like running a 250w hps

LOL :-)
All good....I have it set up in my tent, doesn't seem all that loud, but maybe I got lucky quality wise. Just wondering about the performance? Is it a decent light for a single plant grow? Will I need any supplemental lighting?

If you bought it already it will work fine. I have two of them. If you're going to spend money in the future on it, maybe don't. Go ahead and get yourself a 250W HID system instead. Learn from my mistake. It isn't quite as warm as a 250W HID but it is close and has half the output. I'd definitely go with MH/HPS if your ventilation/cooling is decent, but with only 5' height you may not be able to keep the plants far enough away from it. LEDs, even relatively shitty ones like Mars old white 300W do have an advantage in that they grow better weed than T5 or CFL, from what I've seen, but you can get the lights much closer than you can with an HPS. With a use-case that has limited height or cubic footage they can still be sensible. Get it cheap, <$100 and I say you'd be OK.

Looks like that MarsII 300W is actually 130W draw.
Please post pics of your grow with this. I would like to see how it does for veg vs some other 100W category lights

My first LEDs were Mars Hydro. They will grow pot, you'll be fine. If you ever want to test the limits of what your space can produce, or your interest turns to growing super dense frosty buds, you can always upgrade later.

I only ran mine through a single grow, so I do not have direct experience, but its my understanding that the diodes can start to fail within the first year of use. So, inevitably if you find you enjoy growing, you will be either buying more of them or moving up to better lights.

Yes, agreed, I'm sure if I continue growing, I'll need to upgrade at some point. But, I figured I'd give it a go, see what the results are.
I'll def post some pics once I start!
Thanks for the info guys!

I'm on my first grow with a NL auto using that light in a 3x1.5x3.5 cab. I started on 6 CFLs then got the LED. They really perked up under the LED. Here are some pics.image.jpgimage.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Got the light for about 70 off ebay (new). I guess I'll give it a shot, see how it goes. If I'm not liking the progress, I can always switch to HID in the future.
I think you'll be pleased and HID in a space that small would be tough to manage for heat.
Keep your light as close to the plant as you can and still cover the whole plant, like 6-12 inches above, or maybe 18"-20" max.

I supplement with CFL, but you can see the parts of the plants under the LEDs are much more developed. This was just a moment ago:

They push close to 140! My 60x5 Mars lights are 137W approximately, I asked the Killawatt.

@That FL Guy - did you buy the white one, or is it black, or green? I'm curious which series you got. If it is white it is pretty old, and good news; it will still work.

125watt(Zelion),150watt RW150,200watt optic vero29, 120watt voptic vero18 (Left) 200watt optic Vero29 (Right).
Any of these fixtures would Dust it.
Zelion 2x2 (88watts) is what ya need in the 2ft x 2ft. if your looking for a mono.
Red Switch SSL80s
Blue Switch SSL80s
Yeah, totally, but do any of them cost $70? I think it is a fine light for a first grow. And you can get frosty buds if you have decent genetics happening.

it would have been more helpful for you to have asked the questions before you made purchases,
you will find many of us started with mars and moved on, there are some really old threads on RIU that have allot of grows and pics of mars housing.
Many of us will joke and be snarky about them, and many of us consider them to be bottom of the barrel, with that said, they do grow dope, and your plant looks healthy
I found my mars fans to be too loud, so I replaced the fans with quieter fans, now I cant hear the fans run, if I did it again, I would keep the same fans and just replace the power supply to the fans with an adjustable one.
