Usually by now when someone says they're going big the haterade starts flying. Obviously you're gonna fail\get busted\get robbed\get electrocuted\never try!!!
I'm going to encourage you in hopes that when you get big you remember who helped you out =p!
Soil or hydro you're gonna need an auto watering system. no way you're gonna lug that kind of weight everyday.
You'll probably want to get some real hardy strains, something pest\mold\overfert resistant, it'll make your life so much easier in the long run.
Leave yourself good sized aisles to walk down, its tempting to cram in an extra row of plants, but you'll thank yourself later if you have ample room to move around and work.
Find a hookup for your nutes- growing 500 plants you're going to go through juice like mad, get yourself a deal on it. hell find a hookup for everything! =)
Ventilation!!!!!
Measure twice- cut\pour\etc. once!
Pay lots of attention, on such a big scale things are going to happen, pests, broken\failed equipment, get on it before it gets out of hand. dilligence is the key!

Sounds like this is a closed top barn and you'll be using lights??
Think about a system like this Electroyield Light Relay Center - Flip Flop - Timer's, Timer Boards & Relays
It lets you use a single ballast to power 2 bulbs by alternating every 12 hours, good idea not only to save having to buy half your ballasts but also eliminates the large power spike a grow of this magnitude has when day starts.
I cant really give you alot of specific plans and whatnot, just some general tips.
Good luck and happy growing
Oh also the golden rule, dont tell anyone that doesnt NEED to know. this can be the difference between bountiful harvests and a long time in jail.

Wow, 500? hum? 30(at least) Mothers too clone from. Veg for 3 weeks min. I would say Hydro for sure. Multi-flow for easy regulation and consistency. 600 gal res 10 pumps. 50 gal of fert for veg. 100 gal for flower. 6-8 big carbon filters. if neighbors are within a mile or 2. 10-15 box fans. 55 1kw lights. 10-460cfm inline fans. 100kw diesel generator. Bags upon bags of grow media. 60k should be a good start. could be done cheaper. what is the floor dirt?

I'm looking to have about $25,000 just for hardware, Everything will be done right.

Strains:

White Russian - Serious Seeds

Matanuska Tundra - Sagarmatha

Bubbleberry - Sagarmatha

What do you think? I plan on keeping 10-15 mother plants. More info coming , this will be a long process. Ideas and questions are welcome.

I have tons of suggestions, but you haven't said how experienced you are.

To start off, I'd get 4x 1000W HPS, and learn the basics, then expand, this will also give you a little more investable money.

Good luck, haters beware. :peace:

Oh, you might want to get some production strains, big bud crosses are good yielders.

And I second the generator, you'll be pulling tons of juice, and you'd save money investing in a nice bigass generator.

If you can put a clear roof,(corugated plastic) and utilize the sun for summer grows, that would be the most affordable way to go, but depending on your latitude, this might not be an option.

If you live in the sticks, I'd just build a greenhouse, and say fuck all the electricity bullshit.

I've been growing for about 8 years, outdoor and indoor. I like to grow very strong strains vs big yields.. I have grown Big Bud X Cheese great strain. I'm thinking about starting with a hundred plants. What would you do?

That's what I'd do, start with a bit smaller of a setup, and add on to it. I grow 54 plants under 6 600W lights, 9 per light. If you went with 1000W lights, you could have 96 plants under 6 lights, 16 per light in a sog grow.

It's a decent amount of work, keeping up with a large garden is a full time job.

I average around 6 lbs per harvest, and have grown a shitload of different strains.

Right now I'm growing Super Skunk, DJ short Blueberry and my own hybrid of MangoxSilver Pearl

I have grown, Super Silver Haze, Silver Pearl, Sensi Star, Afgooey, Mango, Blueberry, White Rhino, Strawberry Cough, Ak47, Silverberry, Skyjack, NYC diesel, cali-orange, mazar, cindy-99, super skunk, white widow...

i'm sure I'm forgetting tons, at one point I was mothering 22 different strains.

sweet. could you give a quick review of strains? what's your favorite tasting bud, what's the best producing quantity, what grows fastest? your top favorites. I'd like to get some super silver haze seeds, but I heard they are harder to clone.
