Master Kush

Dutch Passion did at one time, but a dozen or so years is a long time and the Dutch scene is not at all what it used to be, so no idea if theirs is still good. Pisces made some excellent SoCal Master Kush s1s awhile back too. Not sure beyond that.

White Label Seed Company which is associated with Sensi Seeds made the first Master Kush. Any reproduction is just that. A reproduction.

Two versions of Master Kush were around before White Label even existed. Dutch Passion's Masterkush (one word), which was claimed as a cross of two different hindu kush cultivars, and Sensi's Master Kush, which was listed as a cross of Hindu Kush and Skunk #1. I bought and grew both before Sensi even started selling White Label as a means to compete with Gypsy's low prices.

White Label is not the original breeder of anything that I know of, though their strain descriptions often take credit for other people's work. In fact, I recall Ben Dronkers justifying F2ing and selling other people's lines as their own by saying that all the other seed companies were using his genetics to create their strains, so all Dutch cannabis belonged to him anyway.

Interesting. As I look at various sources on the internet the story is different at many places. Some say it was originally called High Rise while others give credit to different breeders. For a guy like me in the states all I can really be sure of is that it's a Dutch creation. I grew it for years some time ago. I got it from clones so I don't know where the origins of the strain I had came from. But what I grew was pretty damn good. It was a workhorse. Easy to grow, high yields, and quick flowering time. This was years ago. Whatever version I grew was worth growing and I'd grow it again.

I do have a pack of Nirvana Master Kush so I'll likely at least grow their version in the future.

I think Nirvana's is HKxSkunk1. An unfortunate side effect of cannabis being underground for so long is that a lot of the history gets rewritten over time and many of the people who would be around to correct it are either dead, in jail, no longer interested, or no longer relevant enough for anyone to listen. That's how a lot of the bogus strain histories come to be over time, too.

Yeah... it is HKxSK#1. I remember now. It wasn't Sensi and Dutch Passion that had it early on. It was Dutch Passion and Nirvana. I think it was actually one of the strains Nirvana launched with. I'm not sure Sensi ever had a version of it out before White Label came into being. Of the two, I much preferred the Dutch Passion one, which was very much like the SoCal Master Kush cut that's still around today. The Nirvana one was a pretty generic sweet skunk.

You're right. From their website "Genetics: By crossing two of the most reliable strains around, Skunk #1 and Hindu Kush".

Oh well, it was an impulse buy while making an order some time ago. But if you look at most strains there are usually numerous versions with some put out by well over a dozen different breeders. Which is why I don't take strain names as seriously as some because the Cookies one grower is growing may be completely different than the Cookies another grower is growing. Same thing with all the popular strains like Gorilla Glue. There's around 20 different releases of Master Kush and they can't all be the same. I really think breeders that recreate a strain based on the genetic lineage should have a /Breeder X attached to the name so there is no confusion that it's not the original but a recreation. But I know that will never happen.

Yeah the Dutch and BC seed banks were playing the name game long before the seed business in the US even existed, which is really how the online forum culture grew to be what it once was (and still is, to a lesser extent). With the internet, we could actually get (mostly) verified lines and clones directly from people from plants that they actually documented with photos and details. Most of the old forums are gone now or are ghost towns, but they were the primary driver behind the evolution of cannabis from being mostly schwag to what we have today.

Don't know anything about Homegrown Fantaseeds' offering. I had pretty much forgotten they existed until I just read your comment. I do think Raskal said on IG awhile back that he would be remaking the White Master but I don't know when.

I grew out a pack of Nirvana Master Kush about 15 years ago. I got the most varied phenos... short and bushy with almost no buds just tiny flowers, to some with huge colas. I wondered whether these were F1s or IBL chucking. curious to see if you have better results, I might have got some bad luck. My friend was a fan of the smoke, it was floral/citrus/earthy and mellow.
