Matching Drivers and COBs

Aluminum tape might be better than the kapton. Nice idea.
Yeah I have more control now than I used to, and bud instead of Budweiser means less holes.
I dont like Budweiser as my beer choice, but it rhymed.
Fortunately for my fists and my walls I haven't had to get the Spackle out this century...that's in the past.

As for the tape, SupraSPL used Kapton tape, so that is what I started with. The thermal paste and the tape have worked well. I also tried the 3M aluminum tape, and that has worked equally well. I like the extruded heat sinks, so the aluminum tape is also used to hold down the wires between the cobs...and it matches the sink (bonus).

And a few post back you mentioned shortened driver life when running them hard. I keep a fan blowing on my drivers...I think they like it!

My intake blows on my drivers and passively over my hs's
I have all mine with kapton, but after a while some parts have started to peel. Likely from overspray getting it wet.
I think my next light will have pre drilled pin style sinks so it will be pretty!

Do you think that silver aluminium tape would hold up better?

Where is the latest data on drivers and cobs?
Table on page one is outdated.
I think they're 240 CC now for series but is the 320 CC for series wiring.I avoid parallel.

hello guys. tnx for helping me. i have one more question. can i run my vero 29 cobs on one cob one driver? nominal its 2100ma 37v can i run on mean well 60w 1400ma? its give i thinks 42v. can that 5v more make trouble? or does you have sugestion what driver to choice?

yes that driver will run the 3 cobs no problem.you see people using the 1400ma with cree for a few reasons.1 its a good balance between power and eff.plus the meanwell drivers line up well with them, like the hlg-240-1400 will run 5 cree @ 36v instead of just 3 cobs the way your looking to go.also at the lower power of 1400ma or 50w per cob there are alot of options for heatsinks to run without fans or passively which will save energy also.
So, I'm on a budget and - after reading lots and lots of posts - I would also like to run 3 of them (cxb3590 or even 3070) on 1400mA, using passive cooling. Does this still give me enough light for my plants? I'm not into superheavy crops or highest possible profit, the tent will be shared by a couple pepper and tomato plants (to plant outside afterwards).

After contacting Spectrumkingleds, they told me their 100Watt light would be enough for my 2*2.5 or 60*75cm tent. So if I have 3 cobs running 50W (total 150W), that should be even better?

30 watts of CXB3590 for every 30x30cm (900cm2) is fine. For 60x75cm 150 watts is perfect. That makes a fine grow light that is not extremely overpowered.

That's great. For best results, it's probably best to put them in a wide V-shape, instead of one line?
Yep. Make sure that the COBs spread there light as good as possible. 4 COBs would be better for spacing...

60x75cm for 4 plants maximum? 4 COBs gives each plant its own cob. Why not 4 COBs at 40 watts?

4 cobs would probably be better for spacing yes, but I'm on a budget :/ Finding all the pieces needed has been a lot of hard work. When ordering outside of Europe, I'm faced with huge transportation costs (especially because of those passive heatsinks that I prefer using) and possible taxes. I'd like to keep that to a minimum. I could order the cobs at Mouser, but they do not have the right heatsinks. I still might go for 4 though, but I'm very unsure. It probably depends on what Kingbrite can offer me. And for the moment it will be two plants + some veggies. Also, I have an IKEA grow LED laying around that I can add as well (although spectrum wise, it might not be that interesting).

Kingbrite:
4 X 120mm pin heatsink $38.00
4 X CXB3590 CB bin $132.00
4 X iDEAL COB holder $11.20
4 X Glass lens KB-HB100-60/80 $20.00
5 X 0.75mm2 wire cable $0.50
1 X Meanwell HLG-185H-C1400B $42.50
1 X TNT shipping $40.00

$284.20 Total

1 X 4.5% Paypal fee $12.79

$296.99 Total with Paypal fee.

This is without eventual tax. I got 2 packages from kingbrite and did not pay tax. I live in the Netherlands.

Be careful with veg in with your buds as pests are very attracted to them I have seen esp if not from seed they could have bugs from nursery.
You will love your led results I am sure!

Not sure if you know or it has been stated, but 4xcxb 3590's @1400 ma will be approx 50 w per cob not 40. AND That combo rocks!!! 200w and you can dim the light if need be by adding a potentiometer.

This is very similar to the combo I'm running in my COB LED modules. I'm very happy with their performance, to the point where I'm going to run just three modules per 24 sq ft trellis panel instead of the four i have been.

@ttystikk tried to quote....&$!t didn't work.

A bit over 615/620w (wall draw) eh? 24 sq ft VERT trellis? ......can you sense the envy? It's palpable! Damn tent! one day, when I can persuade the misses to relinquish a bit more real estate in my indoor"nook", I WILL have a wall of goodies. Just for the aesthetics as well as I just like tinkering.
I have two of the 200w panels now, and they have surpassed my expectations thus far! The third I am building is an upgrade. HLG320-2100.I'll be right around 750w 16 sq ft I won't be using all the wattage of the third until I can adjust my environment and the plants adjust to the extra photons and power. Now I just need to go re-learn ppf/ ppfd calculations.
