max yield per plant in SCROG?

i've never let my plants vedge long before and figure that topping my starters twice after the second node and letting them stretch a month before flipping them on screens. would you suggest maybe topping to eight colas instead? i've never tried suppercropping a plant yet and am looking for the best plan for filling a couple 2 1/2 - 3 foot screens in a mixed grow with a couple stretchy IBLs. i'm thinking they'd respond best to a 3rd round of topping.

any useful pointers on scrogging beyond the basic tech in videos is appreciated. i'm going to be using 2 x 400w halides so yield will already be on the low side for any plant. i'm planning on using my 2 gallon polys with organics.

ive heard that the max yield for scrog under optimal conditions is 2 Oz per square foot... idk about topping so much tho, you'd end up with 8 tiny colas compared to what you could have gotten in the first place...

im about to start a DWC scrog and im only going to top 1 time just to have the plant be a little more symmetric when i start tucking it in my screen.. ill try to post some pics later for ya.

ope this was a little helpful, good luck!

Well, if you top 2 times you'll end up with something like this,SAM_0313.jpgSAM_0314.jpg It was topped once above the 2nd node, once more above the 4th node. it was super cropped a few times too. i do this to all of my outdoor ScrOG's(this obviusly isnt a scrog plant), and i would reccomend this technique for your scrog

i'm hoping for at least 1 gram per watt at least under 2 x 420w boosted halides. i don't know if i can pull off 400g per square meter though using mostly lower yielding stretchy strains. my understanding of topping is the more bud sites you create, the more top colas your plant thinks it has so instead of 1 big cola, you get a bunch of better than average sized ones with better "light penetration" to boot.

i was actually considering overpacking my screens a little and if they really do start filling up too much, letting them go long enough to prune some end popcorn.

the closest i've gotten to screening was topping my seattle trans-love freebie twice and getting an almost flat top of 8 buds i'd guess were 2 grams each dried when i had to harvest early after everything got burned the night i forgot to turn my fan on after i quit running it 24h to try and get butt sniffing neighbors from hell outta my biz. that was a really compact plant.

the dude that checked out my 1st grow under halide was impressed by how free from spider mites my plants were coming from seed i guess and suggested i let them vedge a lot longer next time as i flipped everything at the 2nd or 3rd node with no topping. my 2 1/2' C99s didn't yield a lot, but i thought if i screened my slower haze skunk, that might have had some serious budding potential as it has a 1 bud per 2 inches flowering pattern that would work better on a screen than vertical i think. i actually did top that one twice too.

i'm not worried about absolute yield, just enough to get me through around half a year with a second harvest to tide me over until next season. in theory, i should get 400g easy with 2 lamps and a couple of 2 1/2' x 3' screens in one harvest. more than anything, i want the best quality THC and flavor expression. i got more complex fruity flavors out of both super cali haze especially and C99 under halide than i did the cross under a sodium which just became "generic fruity" like many other strains.

so far, i think i've yielded way less than that in 2 grows with the second ending in under 45 days of flowering because of the leaf burn. i wish someone would invent a low speed silent fan as regular ones buzz the louder they aren't howling.

idk about topping so much tho, you'd end up with 8 tiny colas compared to what you could have gotten in the first place...
i'm trying to simplify and run fewer plants, that's why i'm looking to max yield per plant instead of pert square meter.

Your max yield is always going to come down to how much light you have. With a total of 800 watts in a scrog you should be able to pull two pounds.

Well dunno where the figures come in.. but I have 2x2 screens on my plants and I just pulled 6.5oz trimmed tight like a virgin (my plants stay smallish 3-4 feet tall), from a scrog under a 600w that is shared by 4 other plants. So... it's kind of realative how much you will get but I will tell you that it pretty much doubled or tripled my yields when I induced screens. I usually get 5-7 ounces per plant now with screens at that small size, with training beginning in week one of flower.

That looks like tumble weed not cannabis.. what is that?

well thats assuming that absolutely all light gets reflected to your plants and that you do something like LST or SCROG to make sure all buds get even light... you need at least 50 watts per square foot and thats cutting it loose.... id advice something in the ranges of 70-75 if possible!.. but making sure there are no light leaks, plant is trained for maximum light penetration and pot size, nutrients, co2 and a healthy growing environment are provided then is possible i'd say

I said in a scrog lol! I was also being conservative, you should be able to average close to 1.5 grams per watt in a properly utilized scrog if you know your shit.

What I want to do is use a 4'x8' hydro tray covered by two air cooled 1000 watt lights and fit 32 12"x12" square plastic containers in it. Fill the containers with a coco/ peat grow medium. Use a 55 gallon drum as a reservoir and build a drip line to water the plants. With a goal of 3 pounds per harvest

well, i have 3 things going against me, i'll be using lower yielding halides, few cash crop strains and i don't know my shit at all for SCROGging other than the demo video i watched a year or two ago that i can't find that covers the basics.

i'm STILL trying to figure out how to sex plants in 16oz cups without having yield affected short of reverting and maintaining two rooms which is always an issue too. i guess i just like doing everything the hard way. if i can pull off just 16 ounces in 3x5 with 840w, then i should have enough to maintain a quarter a week habit for an entire year, or at the very least, until my next harvest a couple months after that. i'm feeling more optimistic about improving my previous 2 dismal yields. getting an efficient vaporizer should help stretch my stash out too.

i like the idea of SCROGging more for maintaining stretchy IBLs than maxing yield. thanks for all the help.

going by the math given here, that should be very easy as long as you take care of temps and humidity etc.

as long as i can get enough smoke for a year out of two grows, i'm happy. actually, finding a way to get rid of my excess would be a problem short of just tossing buds in random locations for people to find. LOL

i still say my last purveyor of schwag, i mean stoner bud, was freezing all of the buds and breaking the resin glands off. there were never any visible glands on his bud, and i'd tear through an eigth in just a couple days.

you want something done right...

this is the most realistic post in this whole thread excluding what buddha said.

^^ so are you saying if you scrog and temps are good nutes are right one along with PH and PPM you should be able to do 1.5 a watt? Meaning in theory 600 watts can get you two lbs? That seems out there... I wouldn't know tho but let me tell you my next round will have a screen for scrog that's for damn sure. How about the amount of plants does that matter in yield? I started with 6 only 2 females remain. All dudes had to go I don't support sausage parties! But think I can pull whatever I would have gotten from 6 plants out of the remaining two? In other words cany two plants produce what the 6 plants would've?

What's your thoughts on having 4 of these in a 4x4 but having each pot staggered by two weeks so that way your pulling out one pot for harvest and putting a new pot in from a veg tent every two weeks?

Best way to grow scrog. Been at a while. N this is the coolest way iv ever seen cannabis grow. My indica is only about 5"-6" above soil. And completely!! Vegged out horizontal. So cool to see..IMG_20160723_171253413.jpgflipping as soon as I get 100% health back after slight N abundance.. Going for FF bloom nutes tmrw on my day off. 2x2 area.
