Mazari fems. 350watts CFL's

Hi RPsmoke :-)

I understand friend, must be the NL !!!!

The heat shield is just 2 piece of thin glass (I'll grab a pic later). Many of the CFL's are now resting on the glass and the plant tops are within 3" of the glass. I could let them touch the glass almost I think without burning. Main reason was to bring the temps down a touch by 'channeling' the heat along to the exhaust fan at top right of the box, its worked better than expected, dropped by 7 to 8 degrees :hump:

Heres the pics I took yesterday at day 21 of 12/12.

Watered fed again today, still using the 'bio bizz GROW so far, will use bloom nutes next time maybe. I also have Canna PK13/14 in reserve for around week 5/6 ish but I'm not pushing it this grow at all :-)

On the subject of grow/bloom nutes, I have been following this thread by Uncle Ben here (LINK):
The never ending abuse of Phosphorous to enhance flowering I tend to agree with this guy, so many of the problem that we see here with burnt/yellowing plants is directly a result of overfeeding and trying to push the plant along too early. Whats your take on this RPsmoke?

Also a pic of the cabinet closed up (left), pretty stealthy ?

The 2 cuttings(from Aggie) are now at day 6 from the cut.
I like that glass idea. Pretty smart, and anything that lets you get the lights closer is always worth checking out. Nice work. And yes, SUPER stealthy !

I partly agree with Uncle Ben, and have read his posts many times. I "abuse" the plant with tons of phospherous, but I also provide plenty of grow nutes.

I personally use Fox Farm, Fox Farm solubles and Aquashield and SugarPeak.

If you look at Foxfarm's feeding schedule, they suggest using some Grow Big during flowering along with the appropriate soluble and some aquashield. I replace the Grow Big formula with SugarPeak veg formula (only during flower, I use Grow big during veg). I mix this in to the nute soup, slightly on the heavier side, depending how the plant takes to nutes overall. I keep a heavy feeding mix of Big Bloom, Tiger Bloom, and Sugar Peak, along with Beastie Bloom or Cha Ching and some aquashield. In the last weeks leading up to harvest, I switch to only Sugar Peak veg formula, a heavy feeding of Cha Cing, and some aquashield. Last couple days I run heavy Florakleen mix to flush. Then 1-2 days of just water in hydro. Soil, I water with plain PH'd water for the last week or two. In soil, generally feed every 3rd watering. Plain PH'd water in between.

Doing this has kept my plants super healthy and green (unless I over do it and give em nute burn). I don't have leaves that die off like others. Maybe a couple throughout the grow, but mostly due to lack of light, and nothing else.

So, I do think some extra N during flower helps, but there is a fine line. Too much can give you some oddball growth.

I also keep my plants on veg nutes for one to two weeks into 12/12. This is to help with the "fill out" period directly after switching to 12/12. Plants seem to stretch and grow fast during this time. Extra N seems to help. I start feeding very light, and only up the feeding as the plant can take it. If I over do it, I quickly back off.

I do like how he talks about rotating the blends. That is what i try and stick to. I try and "read" the plant to see what it needs, and feed accordingly. I don't have an X amount of any food I use at certain times. I feed as I see fit for the most part, and it has worked out great for me. Spent a few years going by different formulas, and have finally found one that works for me. It is based off the FF feeding schedule, but has quite a few tweaks for my extra additives, and just from personal experience. It's ever changing, and always flexible ! Just gotta listen to the plants. I do mix in heavy veg formulas during flower, but I also use formulas very high in P. I mix them up and try and stay well balanced. I do not have sick looking plants near harvest, nor do I lose many leaves.

Hope that makes some sense for ya. :eyesmoke:

RPsmoke,

Enjoyed reading through that reply friend, got me thinking a lot about nute regimes, thanks for taking the time to type it :-). I'm trying to keep it very simple this grow, cut out the superthrive and held off on bloom nute until now. Continuing the 'grow' now but adding 'bloom' a per BioBizz instructions. Looking OK so far I think?

OK, its day 23 of 12/12, a few random pics so far. Heat screen working brilliantly well, temps max at 75 and the tallest bud tops are now 2" below the glass with most CFL's resting right on the glass, yet the glass stays barely warm to the touch with the airflow:-)

General shot into the canopy.

Pic at left is NIGELLA, 2nd pic is AGGIE, you can see where I pinched and bent the main top of Aggie to slow it down, its worked well.

Suns shining today, I got Steve Miller band playing abracadabra on the IPod.... what more could you ask for in life?

nice healthy looking plants dude! those stems look nice and strong.
Cheers clasonde, and thanks for looking in here :-)

Right, I'm going to go for photo overkill now! Will leave it a few days after this before updating again... so I'm going to post some pics of each individual plant with a ruler for scale.

Its day 24 of 12/12.

First up is 'AGGIE". She was the one I left un- topped. gave her a pinch & bend to control the height.

And finally Nigella. Shes the tallest. It is interesting to note that she shot her thick taproot out of the bottom of the initial small pot very quickly which I think explains why the other 2 remained shorter as intended! I allowed all 3 to remain in small pots to control root mass/size when re potting, simply cutting extra holes to allow the roots to spread into the fresh soil.

I hope the pics posted above give you an idea of scale of the individual plants as we watch them develop :-)

So heres the obligatory group shot, all 3 together as of day 24 of 12/12.

Next update in a few days time. Thanks to all who are following my simple grow :-)

Morning tam, hows those temps where you are today? I've been out for an early walk along the beach with the dog and its bloody freezing here :-O Lights have been on in the cabinet for 2 hours and its only just crept up to the 70 mark!!

If you get desperate mate you could always sacrifice one plant maybe a touch early and let the rest finish? I have cut an AK48 at 7.5 weeks before and its still very much done the trick for me :eyesmoke: But I'd say closer to 9 weeks is good for those.

Bigman, thanks for those comments my friend and if I can be of any help at all to you just ask away or PM me if you wish :-) Good luck with the new grow and sorry to read that you abandoned those seedlings but sometimes its just easier to start over.

day 26 of 12/12 today.

Few more quick pics taken this am. I'm thinking of starting a new thread in the 'design' section around the kind of cheap s/h wooden cabinets you can get from local Hospice shops here in the UK, stealthy and more spacious than PC cases :-)

Anyway heres the pics:

Hi tam, Have been reading the link you sent me re HPS v CFL's. Lots of good info there and I understand totally why you want to switch BUT you can get healthy yields of nice dense buds from these CFL's.

Heres a few quick pics taken from my last 4 grows, all same cabinet and CFL's. Strains are: BUBBA O KUSH AND NIRVANA NORTHERN LIGHTS. I see no reason why those AK48's of yours should not do every bit as well mate. I dont have pics of my AK48 grows as they were deleted from an old PC unfortunately :-(

Just to liven up my thread a little:

1. Bubba O Kush. Early Spring 2009.

2. Kush again.

3.Kush after removing lower buds.

4.Nirvana Northern Lights. fems. Spring/summer 2009.

5.Some cut NL buds, CFL's of course.

6. The NL plant from which the above buds were cut. Dry weight was a touch under 1 and a Q OZ's which I consider respectable for CFL's?

CFL's can do the job if used correctly.

God that's gorgeous. I'v been contemplating a grow for the past 10 months and have lived in two seperate places, both are kinda sketchy to have a grow, even a stealth one due to people being in my room often. Do you have any suggestions on a DIY box? i'v wanted to have a box like yours or a stealth pc... but it'd have to be lockable / light tight and odor tight. CFLS can't cause a fire right? the bulb just dies? Amazing grow so far man. I envy people who dont have nosey land lords / room mates.

Beautiful buds there MS. Cfls can produce very nice nugs it takes a little bit of dialing but with some practice will produce just as nice nugs as hid.

I wouldn't risk it yet man. Wait till you get your own place that way you won't have to worry. Trust me you think about it more than you think you will when your in it. Sometimes I'll catch myself at work driving completely zoned out thinking about my grow.

Yeah that link was very interesting I read just about all of it aswell! I'm gonna stick with the cfl's it's more of a challenge, I reckon using HIDs is just to easy.

And well done on them other grows they looks good, I'm really hoping mine turn out like that

Well they don't go through my stuff, but when I smoke it's in my room and my roommate comes to smoke with me. (sorry lol :P) How long are you gonna flower? you looking for amber or cloudy trics?

Nice to see you still around Greenfirekilla :-) and thanks for the comments.

88malice, thanks. I am lucky in that I don't have to hide this from my family, my wife and teenage daughters have got so used to having a few plants around over the last 12 years or so that its never an issue, but I still have that worry at the back of my mind even after all this time because its always a risk. Just think about it very carefully is my advice :-)

DAY 31 OF 12/12.
