McCain: ‘Serious mistake’ if car bombing suspect was Mirandize

It would have been a serious mistake to have read the suspect in the attempted Times Square car bombing his Miranda rights, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Tuesday.

McCain, the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and a longtime leading Republican on national security issues, said he expected the suspect in the case could face charges that might warrant a death sentence if convicted.

“Obviously that would be a serious mistake…at least until we find out as much information we have,” McCain said during an appearance on “Imus in the Morning” when asked whether the suspect, 30-year-old Faisal Shahzad, a naturalized

American citizen from Pakistan.

“Don’t give this guy his Miranda rights until we find out what it’s all about,” McCain added.

This shouldn't come as a surprise. It's par for the course from that crowd, personal rights and freedoms are something they all wail about, but not this case. Funny how they try yo legitimize there ass backwards approach to these matters. Even funnier are the cries from the far Right that except for 9/11 Bush kept us all safe from terror here in the states. Funny how they all forgot about the DC sniper, the anthrax letters. Gotta love Republican revisionist history.

Even though he's an all edged terrorist, he is still a citizen and has the same rights as the rest of us.

Should be but isnt to the far right, i'd be willing to bet if it was the 40 year old balding white guy from the videos that this would be a non issue.
To those far right extremists here, the guys name is all the proof they need to deny him his rights as a citizen. I already heard it today "he isnt a REAL American, he has no rights"

WTF is a "real" American? Hes a citizen for gods sake.

McCain is like Specter, a political whore... Funny how he's all against torture yet he implies that by not giving Shahzad his Miranda, they could get more info out of him. He's just an opportunist scrambling to keep his job. He will fall along with Reid.

The right always wants to be selective with citizens rights. If a person doesn't fit their criteria, then fuck-em, they aren't really Americans anyway. I just love the hypocracy of the righties, they're so transparent.

Rgggh theres too much common sense in this thread, wheres CJ or Rick White when you need them :-)
Exactly, the esteemed duo." Educated fools from uneducated schools" . I always loved that Curtis Mayfield Hit. It applies to many in this society, education out the kazoo, but not a shred of common sense.

never before have I read a thread and agree with all the posts ! gives me giddy goosebumps. hah! McCain is a sell-out and ironically, the juxtaposition of a maverick. he was taken down by Palin and now can't escape the far right positions in his home state. good riddens to bad garbage.

calling mccain a member of the political right is like calling harry reid a centrist, but i will have to agree that all these political whores, left and right should be hung out to dry. just as brak and his crew haven't the right to decide whose personal property should be forfeit and redistributed, mccain's duty is to protect the rights of all citizens, even if their actions are deplorable. our unresponsive representatives are out of control, believing they have some right to suspend the rights of the people to further any agenda.

I'll agree that McCain has no understanding of the concepts of rights. All you need to know is his wife is a beer heiress and he is a prohibitionist regarding cannabis.

McCain is the perfect puppet.

The next wave of politicians should work on repealing most of the 60,000,000 laws and statutes and regulations we have in this country.

that would be a native american. the rest of us are foreigners, even though we were born here. as for mccain, idiot! he's to blame for putting palin into our lives. he also changes his stances on issues as the wind blows, just like most of them do. and as for not reading rights, i believe "anyone" undergoing questioning for "anything" should be read their rights. our legal system should be the same for anyone on our soil. you can't pick and choose which rights certain people are entitled to, imo. either they all apply, or none do.
