what other mediums can I use besides soil?
Perlite, sphagnum peat moss, vermiculite, hydroton, lava rock, sand, gravel, coco coir, etc.
You can mix some of the above mentioned things to get various mixes. I'm sure I've left out a lot of stuff but these are the most common things people use.

is it the same gravel they use in the drive way?
It depends on where you live. Some places use crushed limestone gravel. I would not use it because the pH will be way too high. It's best to use something like pea gravel which when washed won't affect pH too much.

you would use pea gravel in some type of hydro setup. If you want a ez mix use the blackgold coco blend. alot like hydro but still acts like soil.

where can I find it?
Pea gravel can be purchased at any landscape center or most places that sell aggregate like gravel pits. You can sometimes find it at garden centers or like home depot or lowes. And like stated by Stumps, it would be hydro so it's a lot different than growing in soil.

I don't recommend switching mediums in mid grow. You will probably kill your plant and if not you will severely stress it for sure. Not a good idea. See if you can borrow some money from a friend who smokes and promise him a free sample of the harvest.

ok so in that case what kind of soil should I get?
I personally like Fox Farms Ocean Forest. It is prenuted with organic stuff like bat guano and worm castings. It's expensive...like $20 dollars a bag. If you can't swing that just find something that has no nutes in it at a garden center or home depot. Most potting soil is pretty cheap. Even the FF stuff is relatively cheap considering you won't have to feed for 3-4 weeks.
