Messed up LST

Hey guys is there any way to can really mess up LST? I SAW a vid where a guy taped a large fan leaf down to the side of the container and thought I would give it a go. It worked when they were younger just fine. I untapped them and they stuck with a bent stalk so I thought all was good. Well, 3 weeks later and I decide I wanted to lst again, well I tapped my 3 plants down and 2 decided it would be nice to just pull enough overnight to rip their leaves off. Not really worried about it, but is there anything I should do to help em out. I went from 3 pretty plants to 3 misfit looking plants. They are in an 8 inch pot with FFOF mixed with 40% perlite and the only nutes they get are ff grow big. I am doing a closet grow with 2 85watt(true watt not equivalent) 5000k cfl and 4 23watt 6400k cfl. No reflector on bulbs because I have yet to figure out a good solution for the closet, but I do have to flat white container lids on top to help reflect the light down. Just looking for some input.

Use string, wire or something like it for LST. Make a hook or loop around a stem and tie them down to the edge of your pot. Some people even use small weights on the end of a string, or tape the string to your pot, not a leaf.

Does that make sense? I've watched the same video you did, and I would think that would only work for very small plants.

Get some small rope or jute or a shoe string or something... Make a 'U' around your plant with the length of rope and then tape the loose ends down to the container. Might also consider secure the base of the plant to the opposite side of teh container to prevent uprooting it or stressing roots.. Be aware of splitting stems when LST in multiple directions.

Cool. I appreciate the info. I have been running for six weeks but had extremely slow growth because of the horrible soil I started them in, just feel like they should be a little further along. Patience is a virtue I assume. Its been quite a fun hobby and I am really enjoying my first grow. Here are a few pics from 2 days ago.

Thanks for all the info! I wanted to let you guys know that they bounced back as I hoped they would. I will be getting the lst this weekend when I pick up some supplies. They are getting a bit older, so it's now or never to get the lst'd. Here's a few pics from this morning. Seedlings are also coming along well. I still need to get a proper reflector for my 85watt cfl bulbs. Any suggestions? Need to keep it on the cheaper side. Just using flat white tote lids above to help reflect light but I know I'm losing a lot of efficiency and light for these babies.
