Can i use a MH bulb in a HPS fixture and ballast? I have a conversion bulb but i think it died this morning.:joint::peace::joint:

the quick answer is no, it will ultimately burn out your bulb at best, and will catch fire at worst.

however, you can remove the ignitor, and you're left with a mh ballast. the ignitor is the only difference between mh and hps ballasts.

I have a 1000hps and for veg use the solarmax1 bulb which has a 400mh and a 600hps in the same bulb and then switch to a 1000hps bulb to finish. Unreal veg bulb.

ANSI code on bulb is m58. i looked it up at hid source and it says it`s a 250 watt MH bulb. not anything about it being a conversion bulb. the bulb will glow for a very long time when the timer goes on but will not start for over an hour. so i put in the hps bulb and that works fine. but i want to continue my vegging with a more blue spectrum.

It is best to use both spectrums through the veg stage if possible and this bulb does both.. about $180.00 us but worth it.. you need a 1000hps to run it... do a search solarmax1 and check it out.

Impressive.......... wish i went with the 1000 watt when i bought a ballast system now... :D

"The SolarMax1 - 1000 Watt Bulb incorporates the best of HPS and Metal Halide in one bulb. The 1000 Watt SolarMax 1 bulb runs 400W Metal Halide and 600W HPS in one bulb providing full spectrum lighting for your plants. Runs on 1000W HPS Ballast and emits 100,000 Lumens. "
