MH nd HPS Light Bulbs, What Brand is the best.

Just wondering about the different light bulb brands out there. I have a 400w fixture and I used the HPS bulb that came with the unit for flowering, it doesnt have a name on it, just say HU400. I am sure its the cheapest 400HPS bulb u can get......as it was included with the fixture. I used a 400w MH for Veg that I purchased at my local Hardware store.

Does it make a diffence buying a more expensive (Name brand) bulb? If so what brand should I look for and why are they better?

Getting ready to start another grow and just wondering if I should replace the bulbs from my first grow with those of a higher quality.

Thanks: stlmatt

I think alot of things factor in here..Were you happy with your 1st grow and harvest? Did things go pretty alright as far as the health and production of your plants?
I would admitt that I have seen some really incredible results from the Eye Hortilux bulbs, namely the 430's---- 1 bulb start to finish, 6-8 grows then replace...
And that seems to be the word around the fire....

does your bulb have added blue/violet spectrum? if not i highly suggest you do, especially if your not using blue spectrum sidelighting. i use mine from start to finish.

At our op, we look at light quality this way: All other things being equal, more/better light means more yield. Since we're talking about a 400, say you're getting.75 grams/watt, or 300 grams from your 400 watter. If you could get just 10% more yield from a better light, that would be 30 extra grams. At, let's say $10/gram thats $300 more bucks per harvest. Even if you only run it for 3 cycles, that's almost a grand in extra buds from spending an extra hundred on the light. Make sense?
