MH vs HPS with Autos

So I am planning to grow a few autos over the winter and am debating on what to do for lighting...

I currently have a 400W HPS bulb, but is worth it to pick up a MH for veg? I have read about MH conversion bulbs so that I can still use my HPS ballast... but have also read a few negatives about that route as well (lower light intensity, etc).

Would using a MH for veg make a big difference with autos? I gather they start to flower quite early, so I'm not sure if 2-3 weeks of bluer MH light will make much of a difference considering the cost of the bulb?

Signed, NEWB :eyesmoke: lol

No point in using MH for veg. Use HPS and if you want get a weaker MH for them. People have been saying they find their plants do better under a MH&HPS mix for flowering.

Use a h.o. hps bulb that has added blue and violet spectrum. they are not much more than the conversion bulb would of been and are the best bulb ive seen for both vegging and flowering stages imo. its all i use. outperforms cmh, normal mh, and normal hps bulbs. cmh would be the runner up choice i would advise you to use if for some reason you cant get/use the h.o hps bulb for some reason.
