Mites or Aphids? (Pics)

Tonydash here, same guy who posted possible potassium deficiency thread.

I'm pretty sure now that I have a bug infestation, I just looked under the leaves and saw very small black dots and some white ones. I figure these are the dreaded spider mite, so I took them off all of the leaves, clipped the damaged leaves and misted the plant down with water.

I also gave it a diluted amount of 15-30-15 plant food to help the new growth.

Here are some better images of the infestation and what I've attempted to fix:

Before clipping with damage
and after

any ideas to ensure my girl stays healthy and pest free?

also - COULD this be a plant fungus or is it definitely a bug problem?

calm down calm down, everything will be ok as long as you take care of this problem RIGHT AWAY. They are definitley not aphids... There are two pests that eat away and suck the sap from the bottom of your leaves. one.... spider mites like you were saying. The best way to tell is look under the leaves and see if you can see any webbing kind of like a spiders web. Also if they are spider mites they will be pretty hard to see with your naked eye, but not impossible, also if they are spider mites than you will see them crawling. The second culprit is white flies, if it is this you will be able to see them easily with your naked eye, they look like little white gnats and they will fly all around. Both of these guys multiply fast so hurry and save your crop. I suggest using neem oil, make sure to coat the undersides of your leaves so that you kill all of the eggs, After the first coating wait about a week and do it again. After that your pest problem should be taken care of and you should spray your plants down every 2 weeks as preventative maintenance....
hope that helps

Actually I have a question for anyone out there reading, It is safe to say that most aphids normally dont even attack the cannabis plant? I'm pretty sure that I read that somewhere out there. Arent they the bugs that latch onto the stem and then harden?

You can buy 70% Neem oil at just about any store that has a gardening section, Lowes has it for sure, Wal mart probably does too. Its a pretty popular pesticide that is all organic and so it is safe to use on plants that you are going to be eating like tomatoes, and good for plants that you should be smoking too. Directions are pretty straightforward. 2 tbsp per gallon of water. Make sure that you are constantly shaking the solution, even when you are applying it with a sprayer. Try to just mix up as much as you need for that application because it says you shouldn't reuse solution that has been sitting around for awhile. But yea use it, and then use it again in 7 days, dont be afraid to go crazy with it and spray them down good either. They should be completely gone at that point, after that just keep applying every 2 weeks... to prevent another infestation. hope that helps

nice! i'll definitely pick up some neem oil.

question - My plant is located in a field so it is surrounded by other weeds and
trees. Will this have an impact on re-infestation of bugs? Basically im asking...because of its location, will the neem oil effectively keep them OFF? :?

If you are growing outside its a whole different ballgame with pests. I would suggest now to continue to spray it every 7 days instead of 2 weeks. It will get trickier once you start to flower because you want to make sure to spray around the buds and just get leafs coated.

My parents are gone for the day so I think it's a good idea to get my plant into the proper soil / pot.

I know that I need to buy potting soil, perlite, and worm castings?

Does Agway, Wal-Mart or my local Nursery have these products?

Can I buy a premixed dirt with all three of them?

Any techniques or tips for transplanting?

tHanks!

I transplanted my baby and she's looking good.

Here are some pics of the soil I ended up using and some pesticide to get rid of the bug problem.

The spray has .02% of Pyrethrins - I'm pretty sure that's safe stuff to take em out

The soil has .21% nitrogen, .07 phosphate, 0.14 potash (K?)

Yes aphids eat cannabis and no they don't harden they are either green or brown and soft bodied and will decimate your plants quickly.:peace:
