Molasses + Deer = ?

i'm doing my second serious outdoor grow this year and i currently have two locations i am growing. i want to use molasses this year, probably throughout the entire grow, i have heard and read a lot of good things about it. my major concern with this is that i know there are deer at one location and maybe at the other. someone told me that deer will eat the plants. is this true? and then would the molasses make it extra tasty to them? they have a great sense of smell so could they smell it too? i don't want to waste my time and effort so if anyone could give me some advice? this may seem weird but sometimes when i go out to my spots i'll urinate a circle around the plants hoping it will deter rodents or deer lol will that help? and what brand or kind of molasses is best to use? what ratio should i mix it, i've read different opinions on dosages. every water? every other water? can i mix it with fertilizer? what if i use only molasses and no ferts? help please!

The urine may help but it will not keep them away if they are attracted to the plant smell. Use a trellis-support and put wildlife netting over the plant. you can lay chicken wire on the ground around the plant and this will keep out ground diggers.

i cannot do that because this is a guerrilla grow. i don't know if mj smells and tastes good to deer or if they could possibly just eat it as a last resort kinda thing if they're really hungry. i was just wondering if anyone's had problems with deer or knows anything about someone who has

Molasses type- Any "Molasses, Black Strap or Sorghum" is what you need. Be careful, don't buy the "Molasses Tasting" stuff. I get mine at the Local Grocery store, along with Epon Salt (in the foot care Dept.) & Whole Ground/Stone Ground Cornmeal. For mixing in soil the first time, double the amount- 4 Ozs. per gal. Afterward, 2 Ozs. per gal for soil & foliar feeding. 2 Ozs. = 4 tablespoons. I mix 2 ozs. of molasses, one capfull of Liquid Seaweed, 5 capfuls of Thrive & about 1 1/2 ozs.(3 TBS) of Fish Emusion all together in a one gal. jug. I water the soil a little with plain water, then use about two to 3 cups of the mixture, then water in more plain water. This is done every 7 to 10 days. I foliar feed every week also with molasses & Liquid Seaweed. This mixture enhances one another. The deer won't necessarirly be attracted by molasses, but Coons & Armadillos like to root or dig in the good rich soil. No harm done. Deer or Cows has never bothered my grows, they just walked right past. However, animals will eat anything if they are hungry enough. I hear "Deer Scram" is good, as is bloodmeal, and I also done the urine thing, as my dogs did, around the site. I've filled a mid-sized ice chest 3/4th's full of potting soil, added 5 lbs of mixed grain Birdseed, added water & mixed very well, then took double hands full of the mix, & tossed on the ground-looks like a cow patty, around all the trails around the area. Within a week, you'll have thousands of baby sprouts. Its cheap, gives the Deer something to munch on. Cool? Always use Ferts.

The gallon of Hi Brix molasses that I picked up at Tractor Supply was actually being sold as a deer attractant for hunters.

wow little tommy and wetdog, that doesn't sound good. i'm gonna go for it anyway though and see what happens. south texas, thanks a lot. the birdseed thing is a very good idea. that would help me hide my plants better and cover up trails while also supplying the deer with some food so hopefully they will avoid the mj. that's good that the deer passed up your plants with not too much interest, i hope these deer do the same. what is the epon or epson? salt used for? you used this mixture with salt(i'm assuming it's a salt) and molasses when there were deer around? oh yea, and what is the cornmeal for? an organic fert right? can i make a whole organic fert/ molasses mixture with just things form the grocery store? if so that is what i want to do. and can you mix the ferts and molasses and feed at the same time? i thought i read something about not to do that but i don't see what the harm would be. help and information is much appreciated! thank you!

Blood and/or meat will keep all herbivores (deer, rabbits, groundhogs, etc.) away from your guerrilla garden. I like to dribble hamburg in a 50ft or so circle around the garden area. Be sure not to use animal based ferts (bone meal, blood meal, fish hydrolysate, etc.) in the soil mixture as the predators attracted by the herbivore repellent will dig around looking for the dead critter it smells buried in your garden.

Lost the answers. See dirtdoctor.com, scroll down to Library, alfabeticialize, check out cornmeal, greensand, Epson Salt, Zeolite, Garret Juice, Thrive etc.

I don't know if molasses attracts deer or not but I do know the plants love it. I used it for the first time on my outdoors garden this year and the results were almost instant. Never saw anything like it before. Do what ever you have to do to keep the animals away but do use the molasses. Use unsulphured. $4.50 a half gallon at Smart and Final. 2 tablespoons per gallon.

dont spend money its free to solve this problem. shave your head and sprinkle your hair around the grow as it leaves human scent and the animals will avoid that area. u can use vaccuum cleaner bag too and use the dust in it as its full of human scent. dog hair works. and you can piss around your grow as it leaves a scent too

or.... just kill some fat fucker and make a scaredeer out of Him. Yea, that's the ticket. (This, Ladies & Gentlemen is the excercise of right to free speech, at it's finest.) The Deer Attractant stuff at Tractor Supply is NOT a delution of 4 TBS per gal. of water, mixed into soft soil. bennypat, 2 Ozs. per gal., that "4" tablespoons, and that's after using 4 Ozs. on virgin soil, first, the 2 thereafter. Mix with seaweed, the results is 10 fold. Foliar feedwith it, Seaweed & Molasses, no more spider mites, she's too tough to bite into. Greensand is taken from 100 year old, dried up ponds & lakes, all the trace minerials are there. Tomatoes, rotting bottom, it's called bottom blossom rot. Cause, minerial defecientcy, cure, Epson Salt, one handful. Whole Ground Cornmeal grows a Fungi called Tracadera, kills root rot, powder mildew, scale, etc., and is a mild nutrient. While in the field, pissing, 2 Ozs. of urine per gal. is good for nitrogen. I take multi=vitimin, 1 quart of beer prior to the pissing contest. Not Lite Beer, for God's sake. The molasess is like a Chinese Buffet in Etheopia, your Microbes goes on a feeding fenzy, working your soil, loosening it, causing good water retntion. breaking down nutes to bite size for Fungi, then bacteria, then absorbtion for you Ladies. Peat is anti-microbial, use it for storing onions, garlic, potatoes, etc, not in your soil, Coco stuff is fine, Lava sand has 40% water retention- people, that's a LOT. Zeolite is a natural Valcanic by-product that absorbs... used in Kitty Litter, Floor Sweep, ect. Sciesntist(what??) in Russia has been studying the shit for a couple years. It absorbs the nutes and relases them evenly. A steady balance is key, no stress, no growth retardation. It takes me 2 weeks to recoup from a cold, plants, 2 weeks lost in recoup from heat, water, mold, cold stress or lack of. Balance, even flow, that's a good Parents task.

i use moth balls for my outdoor grows. also don't put your plants out when there little, deer like soft sprouts. once your plants start to get woody the deer will do far less damage. They'll pretty much just top em for ya if vegging. Once flowering, I've noticed they really don't like the strong smell, and stay clear. Piss, human hair, dog shit, all good ideas.

Scarecrow motion activated water sprinkler

Heres your answer. I know your stealth so it would not help you, but it help some people outside. I may try it on my vegetable garden. I think its a good principle, but animals appear become desensitized to many deterrents over time.

Where did the *2tbl/gallon* come from? That's a bit much. LOL

I used to use 1tbl/gallon as a max, but over the years have cut that down to a tsp or so/gallon.

As was noted, you want a balance, and a huge bacteria bloom from too much molasses can be a not good thing. You want the other micro life also.

Most of all my info comes from the Dirt Doctor. Yards, Flower/Veg. garden, first app., 4 ozs. per, & 2 ozs. (4 TBS) thereafter.

Are these amounts for *Yards, Flower/Veg garden*? I can agree with that, or have no problem with it. But, for container growing, those amounts seem way on the high side, and that's what *I* was refering to.

Just wondering.

Always take some joy dish soap mixed in a spray bottle. Spray the plants and the ground. Bad for bugs and keeps critters away. Rain washes it away
