Mold on soil? search is down please help

I bought a bail of Atami B-Cuzz medium it is 70% canadian peat moss 30% perilite

I used a couple gallons of it in 1 gal pots and some in my clone tray. I put the rest in a rubbermaid container. (I packed it as it is full to the lid in this container)

One week later as I prepare to do some transplanting, I open the container and find a thin layer of mold accross it. Yuk, I closed it right up. Not sure how deep the mold has gone as I didn't want to spend too much time with the lid off cause I'm allergic to mold..... I also notice what appears to be a powdery mildew or posssibly mold on the soil in my clone tray.

Is there a way to treat this soil to kill the mold? I can't afford to go buy a new bag and I can't afford not to transplant as my girls are starting to show signs of root bound.

Anyone?

I saw the same thing in a similar situation. The soil was a little damp when I closed the lid and a week later I see all this growth or mold all over. I hadn't seen that before but just mixed up the soil and pretended it wasn't there. haha That was a month and a half ago and I'm in flowering and haven't had an issue. Maybe it was the myo-c stuff just growing in the soil as it hasn't caused a problem.

There is some spray that treats mold and fungus. I think it's the same brand as one of the popular bug killlers. Can't remember the brand.

Wet is the most knowledgeable person on this site, if not in the top 3.
Thanks! Not really knowledgeable, I just know 1,627 different ways to kill a plant (from experience) and try not to repeat any of them, at least not too often.

Yep, I get this on my organic soil when it's fresh out of the bag and when my grow room stays moist a lot during the winter. I was freaked out the first time but found out it was exactly what wetdog said. It's awesome when you think you did something wrong and find out its actually a GOOD thing. :D

For sure! Thanks for calming my worried/newb mind. 1 Week after transplanting into this medium and the girls are looking great! Definetly exceeding my expectations of growth.....

I WAS worried cause this is the second bail of B'Cuzz I've used and the first one never did this......

I would use Coconut coir instead of the un-sustainable peat moss. Coco coir is much more nutritious and breaks down much quicker. Mix that coir with worn castings and that's pretty much all you need. Or worm tea for hydroponic system. Coir is GREAT for the roots and worm castings and tea have growth stimulators. You won't be disappointed.
