hey everyone!

starting a new thread is always a great time! excited to be back at it, but taking things in stride this time. not going to overpromise, or claim a schedule for posting, but wanted somewhere to log and hopefully have some pointers pointed out!

this will be grow number...hmm...idk call it 5. there is history available, certainly just ask if you have any questions on the origins of all this. but hey, it all comes down to what we are working on now, so...

one time, a few years ago, before growing, i came across a bag of some decent herb that had gone hermie. i believe the strain was shipwreck, but we have since renamed this particular strain sticky nicky - dont know if thats advisable or not, but hey i like having 'my own strain'. figure if i dont know for sure what it is, and its impossible to tell, that it is whatever i name it! i kept all the seeds i could find that were viable, and sprouted them one time - in 2011. since that time, i had been taking clones from the first female i got out of 10 plants i had. welp, my LAST thread, was the last of that line. i let her go - it was just not happening for that lil lady, and i didnt have the time to nurture her the way that i would have had to to get her back. so i pulled out my micro baggie of seeds and decided to give it a try! i guess this is technically my 'second' grow from seed.

i germed 10 seeds - all of which showed action after 3 days. i kept them a lil cooler than was advisable, but 8 out of 10 popped. i planted them in rockwool cubes, and in a propegator tray. only 3 of those ended up coming up out, cause i just was not spending the time and effort to keep them properly. i planted the 3 that really popped and they seem to be doing well - i germed 9 more seeds, and kept them (after re-reading my original journals) between damp paper towels in a plastic bag placed on top of my octo 4' T5HO setup. that worked like a charm. all 9 sprouted to about 3 or 4 inches overnight. i planted 5 of the healthiest, as i only have 8 pots total - the 9 inchers at about a gallon each. just for sprouting/young veg. i used i think scotts planting soil, cheap and dirty.

so thats where im at. i have 8 going under my veg light. they are about 6 inches away from the light, hanging out on top of turned-over milk crates. the temp in the basement is a lil low - around 57F constant and at no greater than 40%rh. they seem to be doing pretty well. 3 are working on their 3rd or 4th node already, but are only like 6 to 8 inches tall. i am thinking of flowering them soon cause A. im outta bud, and B. to sex them. hoping to get at least 1 female, and going to take a clone from her. the rest, well we shall see. if there are more ladies, i will hand one off to my buddy who wishes to begin this endeavor. if there are any MORE females i will just flower them. take a clone off the best pheno. only looking to have one going per session as thats all i really need and want. this all began approximately 2 weeks ago, possibly a lil longer on the first 3. going no nutes for veg at least as the potting soil has food enough. just watering when necessary. hoping to keep the plants healthy enough that they will themselves repel any mites that show up. i know they will - just a matter of time. i let a lil basement spider set up shop in one of the pots as he seems to be eating anything that shows up to munch on my lil hopefully ladies.

anyways - thanks for reading, and hope to have a few followers soon to add their expertise to my growing knowledge base. pics to follow - although nothing that interesting, yet.

Michael Franti has a new song with your strain in it...

"Drove down to Mississippi, passed a bus of hippies, drinking forties and rolling up some sticky (n)icky."

Good luck!

I found it odd when the song came out as he is about my age and "sticky icky" isn't a term of our generation. Then again, he is half Bob Dylan and half cheesy rhyme king lyrically. But if you have never heard "ganja babe" and your girl partakes, you gotta get it.

Have you considered cutting a clone from each and throwing it onto 12-12 to sex before throwing them all into flower? Would take longer but if you wait to sex in flower, I think you may be late for taking clones.

Or... take clones from each now. Throw the moms into 12-12 and kill the male clones once the moms show sex. Just keep them well labelled. Obvious opp for stoner error there!

they are all too small still to pull a clone from, they havent really exploded growth-wise. 2 of them will be there shortly, thats not a bad idea though. i just ran out of bud though lol so...hoping they are just all females...never happen, i know but...wishful holiday thinking. im betting at least one will be though, and thats all i need. i am waiting for them to show sex, as soon as i can identify a female i will flower her even if shes a lil dwarfy. take a clone from her first of course. i need to invest in some femm seeds...

hey all!

been quite some time! i have made some moves in my area and i think for the better. i did have 2 separate areas going, one for veg and the tent for flower. i live in a rather colder winder clime and run a dehu set for 35% (in the basement) so i think this combination was slowing growth considerably for the veg area, which is just open basement. i decided that since i was only storing things in my tent, i would use that to control environment (thanks brilliant non-stoner wife!). i hiked my hood up to max height and put my T5HO octo setup right underneath it! how convenient! now average rh is around 65-70% and temps are averaging 72ish F rather than like 68. not a huge diff, but seems to be working out in my favor. hard to tell with the only periodic updates i am logging. gotta be better about it - especially given the circumstances. thats right folks, the worst has happened. i am completely out of smokables. like to the point that i cant even rez rip my bowl! its a sad time. a buddy came over with like the tiniest bit and some stems and we smoked those! sad, sad times. lol. naw its all good but im about ready to send some of these into flower. none are showing sex yet, even though they were originally planted on Nov 30th. actually, some 3 on the 30th, the rest on somewhere around the 18th of Dec. either way, the ones planted later seem to be doing better, although are very short. the leaves are intense sized, but show what looks like a slight N deficiency. just a lil yellower green in spots. one of them is all crinkly, a truly unique pheno (or badly abused lil one lol). anyway i am wondering if i need to feed these lil ones anything, the soil claims to have nutes for 'up to 3 months' but i feel like it may be time to dose them up a lil. the pots are also relatively small, i only intended them for sproutlings, but dont really want to transplant any without knowing the sex. i will if recommended. they otherwise look pretty good! the high humidity and slow growth rate mean bi-weekly waterings so far. i think i have only watered the pots twice since the originally potting on the 30th of Nov. they just arent ready yet. i know how much they will drink but so far...

as soon as i identify a female, i have to take a clone or two (if even possible, they would be really small!) and flip to flower to get me some buds! i suppose i will have to set up a separate veg area again for the clones. i will get them planted, and then think about getting another tent for veg. i have a private enough area, but some semblance of stealth is always nice. keep things hidden from cursory inspections and whatnot. slash nice to be able to really control the environment. anyway. then i will have an area to keep the clones and the veggers, and another for flower. might as well go big right?

questions:

-do i need to transplant? or will they grow large enough in the 1gal pots? i guess i just need to know if the pot size is restricting the rate of growth.
-do i need to feed them if the potting soil has nutrients? i forget, slash probably didnt do it right in the first place with soil. had real dark nice leaves, but bad claw.
-anyone have any tips on how to speed up the process? thanks!

this is them on the 8th:

and this was just now:

lookin forward to hearin from ya!
