More Crystals on your bud?

Alright iv been reading so much about this idea and I guess its time I just made a thread to settle it.

Alot of websites, and seedbanks reccomend giving the plant no light for the last 2 days, or week. They say this will make the plant think it is dieing so it pumps out all the resins and thc it has to try and catch some pollen to make seeds. Alot of growers on here say this works, but alot of growers say it dosnt.

Has anyone tried this? What do you have to say about it?

I do it...

but havent tried w/out it yet so I cant really say..

I think it makes sense though.... well Ive heard it a little differently..

the dark period makes the temps drop also.. which forces more resin glands to protect itself from the cold...

not sure if thats the truth or not.... just heard it

Ive heard the same thing-

No light or smaller lite cycles during those 2 weeks will force the plant into desperation to save itself and its resin will crystallize more on the outside in order to protect itself.

Yeh It seems to make sence, but some people say its stupid and it dosnt work.

Someone even posted a quote from a grow book that says the plant creates 50% more thc when light is on for 12 hours.

it's not stupid, and it does work, but it doesn't add a whole lot. up to 5% thc boost; now, that's not a 5% total, but a 5% increase of the percentage of thc. for instance, if the plant is 20% thc, 5% of 20% is 1%, your total will be 21% thc.

not a big increase, but it does help a little. i don't waste my time; i was running perpetual, and moving the plants to a dark room was more than i wanted to tangle with. i have done side by side harvests though, and that's how i know that it's not a big deal.

KP thanks for the input, I am going to do it because I only have 2 plants, so its not a big hassle for that small number. I will make sure to take before and after pictures, to show everyone.

If anyone still disagrees with this idea, please post : )

72 hours of darkness is the standard dark time, more helps, but dp says it falls off signifficantly. i can't find documents to back this up... but, it's out there somewhere...

if i had only two, and only one room, i would do it too. why not? it can't hurt, and only helps...

When I was reading about white widow, it said give the plant no light for the last 2 weeks of harvest to get full crystals... I thought this was a bit long, hold on I will find the site : )

Found it : )

White Widow marijuana seeds, Simply one of the best seeds you can get. This strain was originally developed by a breeder about six years ago. A continuous cannabis cup winner. And it is a must have for anyone who grows and uses their own marijuana regularly.
Flowering Time: On both mediums it is suggested to flower (12 hour light) the White Widow for 8 weeks, but 10 weeks will really give you the crystals you are after. We suggest the final 2 weeks of the flowering cycle to turn the lights off altogether - or at least down to 8 hours. This keeps the flowers from regrowth and stresses the plant into giving up its last drop of goodness as crystal to protect the flower...try it!

Awesome I cant wait : )

I would try it with my white and purple widow plants that should be ready to harvest in a week or two, but those are my only plants... and I dont have access to any more seeds, so I dont want to risk it yakno? Dont call me a chicken either!

Ill try it for 72 hours... see how they do.
