More Smaller CFL's? Or Less Bigger One's?

I think that...

Alright everyone time for your votes!
For every CFL grower what do you think?
Put your reason why you think that way.
Happy Growing!

im not a huge fan of low wattage cfls.. i wouldnt go under 23 watts (personally) .. they still work great, dont get me wrong...but why not spend a few extra bucks for the extra light your plants will recieve from bigger bulbs..but then again wrapping smaller lights around the plant is indeed a great idea..personal preference

personally i think you need a bit of everything, if you dont want to go to mogul socket then i think a bunch of 40w up top and a bunch of 26w at the bottom.

Im gonna run an experiment as soon as my seeds pop. I have two G13 pineapple express and a power skunk im gonna grow. One pineapple and the skunk are gonna go under 4-5 65watt ( 300 watt equivalent and 10,000 lumens per light) and the other pineapple (will be a mini plant) under 23 watt cfls, both mixed spectrum. What i want to try to do is grow the bigger plants without moving the lights at all. I figure cfl or not with with 50,000 lumens the light shouldn't have to be too close to the plants. Will be starting a thread with the experiment later today and will have pics of my set up and all.

If anyone has tried this and can give me any tips or advice im all ears.

Dude, this is an excellent idea, I hope you document everything you do thoroughly, and update frequently. If done right, I could imagine an experimental thread like that could be VERY sucessful

I know, totally. If I had the seeds and the space for 4 grow areas (2 veg and 2 flower) I would totally hop on the band wagon. Junya541, if you don't follow through with this idea, you're fired! Haha, but seriously, we obviously can't wait, so get 'er done!

PS-I can't believe we joined at the same time and you have like 10 posts for every one of mine, Nice...lol! SOMEONE is trying to make themselves a fixture of the RIU community...haha...Good work!

Nice thread! I use as many 23 watt cfls as possible, but have to move them constantly until the last stages of flowering!

I know what you mean.
Thats why I wanted to make a thread like this.. too see for my next grow if I should just use a bunch of bigger ones so I wont have to move them around lol.

ok ive already run into a small problem. I thought i had the rite veg bulbs (6500K) only problem is they are mogul-based and un ballasted so basically a no go.
I want to continue the experiment so, if some one knows of any 6500K bulbs that are more than 42 watts that i might be able to get at a hardware store vs online, thats what im lookin 4.

i think it depends where you get em the bulbs are that expensive they have em at lowes an home depot but you have to get a lamp, reflector, ballast and stronger fans. so ive heard anywhere from $150 to $250.

i definitely have been wondering on this as well. im currently setting up 3 PC grow boxes and might do two with small bulbs and one with a big one or two just to see what kind of results i will get
