My plant is showing bad signs of ph problems and I have been doing my absolute best to keep it where it needs to be. I have 1 big plant in a 5 gal bucket with the bottom 7 inches bubble water and a drip ring up top and it recycles. Hydroton is the medium. I will pour phed water down through till the run off is correct and ph the res and by the next morning its up to 7.4. Im in day 6 of flower and she looks like crap. PLEASE HELP.

do you have a nutrient meter?

No I don't, I'm on it now though. Right now I have a 1/2 strength mix in.
As you add the nutrient to the water, the ph changes, if the nutrient mix is either too strong or too weak then as the plant takes up food and water the solution changes and so does the ph, if you get the feed balanced the ph should follow.

sounds like it could be the hydroton(not rinsed well enough, did it just start doing this, do the roots look good?

Yea the roots look good, and this has been an on going problem. I have been getting by without a ec meter.

Your running dwc/top feed setup???How much water in your res??
Yea, 5 gal res, about 6 with the bucket.

Yea like I said I have been getting by without a ec meter but it just seems like I am needing to adjust the ph so much. Even when I get it all right it goes right back up. With no light hitting the res at all really.

Tap water has lots of contaminants....depending where you are located of course....have you've flushed???Try flushing with a flushing agent ex. clearex....your medium builds up salts and can cause ph fluctuations and nutrient toxicity...it is a good idea to flush every other res change. It is very important to have an ec/tds meter as well..

Ok so I now have a ppm meter. It's at 361 right now. I have a 1/2 strength mix in there also. Here is a picture of what I am dealing with, seems to only be getting worse.
So I guess I am going to flush it then just start over working my way up with the nutes and hope this works out.

361 is that after the ppm of the water was subtracted??Have you ever flushed???When was the last time she was healthy??

My water sits at about 270 and my res is at 361 meaning I don't have much in there. Yes I have flushed she was healthy about a week and a half ago. I used my flushing stuff within the past month is the thing. I didn't want to use it to often is the thing.

another thing is the lower arm tops look a lot better then the top. The curling is much worse at the top. how does that make sense?

So you got 91ppm total......your plant is starving...and what kind of light and how close is it??

My tap water has a high ph, high 7's pushing 8. As a result the nutes as they get absorbed push the ph back up. Im thinkin I need to either get a r/o filter or start buying bottled. you can adjust the ph down but Id rather not start out balancing the water before even adding nutes.

you want that rez temp down below 70. you said you were in a 5 gallon bucket, but how much actual water is in the bucket? wild ph swings can usually be traced to a rez that is too small.
