Mr Grow Pro - 1st Time Grow

Hello everyone.

I am getting ready for my first ever grow and decided to create a grow journal. I will be growing 1 Jock Horror autoflower seed in a Mr Grow Pro PC setup. I am using FFOF soil and have FF nutes coming too. I will be using 3 23w CFL's 6500k... maybe 4 if I can keep the temp down.

I have everything setup but I am having some major heat issues
. Its 9 degrees outside right now, and with the heat on low its about 70 degrees in my apartment. I am struggling to keep my box temp under 85 degrees. I added an extra 4'' fan and that seems to be helping a little bit. I'm starting to get really frustrated over this. I checked the temps right now and it's at 86 degrees. Will I be ok if the temp stays around 85?

I am germinating the seeds right now and need to get the temperature under control.

Any suggestions?

did you build that box yourself or is it off the shelf? try to make an air intake as low as possible to blast cool air in (as you said, you have 70 degrees in your apartment) and an exhaust as high as possible to push out the hot air (as hot air rises, thank you physics). plus, you'll be fine with 85, try not to go over 90 and it'll be ok

I was able to get the temperature down to 82 degrees. I think I just had to wait a while for the temperature in my apartment to even out. I think I should be good now!. I got the box on eBay... the website for the box is mrgrowpro.net. My seed is still germinating but it hasn't popped yet. I will keep this thread updated with pics as necessary. Stay tuned!

Nice. Clean box. I was having temp issues as well. But i didnt know that 85 was ok. I thought that was too high. im aiming for that 78-80 sweet spot and i only have 3 6500K cfls in there with 3 PC fans. I have another one kicking around and im not sure if is should make it an intake or exhaust.

hey audiopulse.

i had the same problem with the heat -- so i had to modify the case i got as well.

the current fans in those case i believe = 30CFM +/- (google the fan name etc)

you will need higher CFM fans (100+ would be ideal 120mm)

how powerful is that 4" fan that you added?

suggestions would be:

exhaust:
fan with atleast 100+ CFM

intakes:
passive! compare to actual fans

extra fan:
another powerful fan for maximum effect blowing across the bulbs towards the exhaust.
(look like this: EXHAUST << BULB << FAN blowing across)

goodluck!

My seed has popped and I will be planting in 15 minutes:lol:

I figured out a work around for to keep the temperature at a constant 82 degrees. I am going to leave the lights up top by the exhaust fan and just use a bunch of movies/games to lift the pot up to the lights. That should work until I get some better fans installed. What do you think?

I have planted my seed. I was able to get the temperature reduced a little by keeping the lights up top and lifting the pot up to the lights. I have a few questions though:

First is this OK to lift the pot up to the lights like this?
How long should the lights be one before turning them off? I plan to do 20/4. I assume the lights should be on for the next 20 hours and then off for 4, yes?
Should I keep the saran wrap over the pot or is that not necessary?

82 is fine if thats the highest temp lights ON (max at 85 but 78-80 ideal)

20/4 = 20 hrs lights on and 4 hrs lights off.

you are running autoflower strain so you can 20/4 -- 18/6 throughout the whole cycle.

poke some hole in that seran wrap over the container -- keep lights on at about 3-4" away.

lighting suggestion:

do a mix spectrum in there -- your plants will love it.

ie: (3) 6500k + (1) 2700k for veg AND (3) 2700k + (1) 6500k flower

looking nice, never done a micro grow before but looks like your off to a good start. your seedling and soil both look good

Also I have been watering it everyday so far.... I have been VERY easy on the amount of water. I give it a few drops near the center and a little around the edges. The lights are really drying out the soil so I feel it is necessary. I'm so excited to see this little plant grow! Do you guys think this is good development for day 5?

Looking good, I know how exciting it is when you crack that first bean, I started my 1st cab grow about 4 months ago. I am going to build a VEG PC soon and am learing a lot from your setup/Grow.
