My bud smells...weird.

Has anyone else grown long bottom leaf? I just started to cure it and it smells...weird.

It's not moldy or grassy or a bad smell. It actually smells a bit like the nori sheets you wrap sushi in. It was most noticable as it hung to dry, and had decreased as it cured in jars. Been about a week in cure. Burping jars daily. I use a 58% humidifier pack too. There's no mold. Buds are green and sparkling with trics!

But it smells ...weird. it smelled skunky and good before harvest. Pretty sure it was ripe when I cut her down. Most the hairs were brown and the tricomes we're cloudy some turning Amber.

Any ideas?

Where'd you hang the plants to dry? Drying buds are a scent sponge. It'll take on smells. If the room where it was dried is musky or funky. The bud will smell like too. It's also why you don't use cover scents to mask the smell. The buds absorb that smell too.

What was fertilizer was given to the plant? Synthetic fertilizer or organic? They both effect the taste and scent profile.

isn't 58% too low for cure? I use 62% packs myself, I always thought curing process stops at under 60%.

It is normal for taste and aroma to change during growing and curing. Some strains smell very little and others overwhelm. I had one plant that smelled like shit of various kinds for weeks in flower until I chopped it. Immediately the repulsiveness was gone and spicy skunky dankness took over. Some really good herb may smell terrible to some.

If the stench is too disgusting just seal it up and send to me for disposal.
