Hey guys.
So this is my very first grow and since this place has been such a great resource to me I figured the least I could do was post my journal. I had some issues I had to deal with at the beginning and I changed my light setup once as well. Now that I have my final setup it's time to post this.

Setup:
1 Rubbermaid garment bag
4 26W 6500K CFL
4 23W 4100K CFL
4 26W 2700K CFL
6 Clamp lamps
6 Y-Splitters
15 8" pots
1 Noma Halogen space heater
1 Oscillating Fan
20L CIL Peat moss
8L CIL Pearlite
8L CIL Vermiculite
DNF Grow and Flower Nutrients
AK 47 Seeds
Ice Seeds
Feminized Trainwreck Seeds

All seeds were ordered from www.bcseeds.com. They have an excellent selection and offer great service when orders are placed within Canada. I would recommend bcseeds to anyone from Canada looking to purchase seeds. I obtained all of my remaining materials at Canadian Tire except for the DNF nutrients which I purchased at my local Hydro shop.

I experimented with both the shot glass germ and the paper towel germ. Both were done on top of my water heater where the temperature was warm and constant. I had success with both methods, however, the paper towel method proved to be far superior when compared to the shot glass germination. My paper towel seeds were ready to be planted in about 36 hours and broke through the surface roughly 2 days later. The shot glass germed seeds were ready in about 3 or 4 days and took another 3 or 4 days to break the soil. I would HIGHLY recommend that the shot glass be avoided whenever possible. The damp paper towels completely outperformed the shot glass germination.

I started my seedlings in my dixie cups filled with my soil mix. I hand mixed my soil and it is roughly 2 parts peat moss to 1 part of both the vermiculite and the pearlite. The seedlings have since come out of the dixie cups and gone into the new 8" pots where I am hoping they can stay for the remainder of the grow. If they begin to show signs of being pot bound I will transplant them one more time.

My 8 CFLs are running 24 hours right now. I wanted to use a 18/6 light cycle but my timer is no longer working. It will run fine and go into the dark cycle properly but for some reason does not turn the lights back on. Once it is almost time to flower I will be moving the plants out to the area I am setting up for flowering. It is about 5'x6' and I am thinking of using 2 400W HPS bulbs. Do you guys think that will be an ideal light set up for that area. I am planning to keep the best looking female of each of the separate strains inside the rubbermaid bag in permanent veg state. I will constantly be taking clones and transferring them into the flower room as soon as they are ready.

As of right now the seedlings have only received water. I have no pH meter so I am using water directly from my water cooler. The ppm on the cooler water is very low and I figure the pH is probably very close to neutral. I have been letting it sit out in an attempt to let some chlorine evaporate before I use it. I have decided it is time to apply my first feed. I am waiting for the plants to dry out so they can get their first taste of the DNF gro formula. I plan to start with a 1/4 strength and work my way up to a full strength.

So that was a whole bunch of talking. Now for the part everyone really wants. I took a couple pictures now that I have all my issues sorted out. Let me know what you think. This is my first ever grow so any advice that anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully I get a better male/female ratio then that. The trainwreck seeds are feminine. I hope I have no issues with them. I am just praying right now for a strong female of each strain to be my mothers. Then the clone wars can begin.

yes hopefully you get more than that.It was bcseedkings that i ordered from and i ordered w.w.,ak47 and da purps.I still got a mother of white widow yet to get a female with the ak still have about (10 more beans) and da purps was just total failure.

Everyone is looking pretty healthy. They all got their first taste of nutrients since getting into the new pots. I used a very weak solution for the first feed and the plants have all seemed to take well to it. There are a couple "girlies"(optimism over pessimism) with a tiny bit of discolouration but it doesn't looke like anything serious.

I didn't decide to do a single shot this time but there are definitely some shining stars in the group. I am hoping they will turn out to be female since they are showing the strongest genes.

Here are todays pictures. Roughly 48 hours since the individual shots I posted last.

I am extremely happy with how things are going so far. They are all looking very healthy and some of them are showing very impressive growth. There are a few who are still kinda small but I figure they will catch up eventually. Now I just have to wait a couple more weeks and hope for some ladies. I really like this plant thing. It makes for a very interesting hobby. I am going to try and get my hands on a book I saw called Sell Marijuana Legally. I think I want to learn how I can use Canadian law to my advantage and get licensed to do this legally. It would be a very fun and rewarding job.

Damn! That is some awesomely good growth you've been getting. Good work! (I just woke up from a dream that I checked on mine and it looked like those, it was nearly a wet one let me tell you..) TMI? meh. However, I've just seen mine bounce back a bit, but not much growth, I'm thinking they're probably still in shock. I'll give them 1 week to show signs of good growth, if not then its time to pick to two 84w CFLs. :D (along with the two 42w's)

Anywho, yesterday I picked up some mylar, so now the box is exponentially brighter that it was before. By the way, I have some extra if you want. Lemme know. Cheers.

Glad to hear my outcasts found a good home. The avatar one looks nice and healthy. They were all looking a little on the sick side when they left here. How am I gonna get that mylar from you?

Temp: 23.8'C
RH: 34%

So I went in today to see if anyone needed a drink and again there was some explosive new growth. I have only 1 plant that is showing any signs of nutrient problems and the problems are only showing in the first 2 true leaves. All new fan leaves on it are green and healthy looking so I don't think there is an issue with that plant anymore.

I decided to go photo crazy today and have several close up shots with some of the nicer looking plants as well as another overview shot or 2. I will post the pics in alphabetical order to avoid confusion of strains. I am slowly being able to tell the strain simply by looking at the fan leaves. The trainwrecks are the easiest to identify as they all seem to have some purple in the stems.

I want to start LST training soon. Does anyone have an opinion on whether or not it is too early, or if I would be ok to go ahead. Some of the healthier looking ones have got dense foliage up top already and are restricting lower growth.

Thanks for stopping in and leaving the kind words. I think the garment bag would be better for reflectivity if the plastic was thicker. I am currently trying to find some black plastic I can use to line the outside with. I figure if I can get the outside completely covered I will fix 2 problems at the same time. I have an issue with light leaking out of the room right now making that glowing door awfully suspicious. I also feel I'm losing a great deal of my light through the sides. If I make it light proof I can also have 2 different light cycles in my room which will come in handy in a week or 2 when I take a clone from each to sex under my 400W HPS.

Might i suggest lining the outside with say black trash bags?
inexpensive and very dark.
but yeah, those are very pretty, they almost remind me of fake leaves haha
Very nice.

Btw, i tried a new method of germing i have a spray bottle of water/mg plant food, VERY low dose, i sprayed a few seeds with that water and other with distilled.
Those that were wet with the MG solution sprouted 2x quicker than those with distilled.
Thought that was a neat experiment.

When you say black garbage bags are you referring perhaps to the contractor style bag. I thought about garbage bags but figured they'd be too thin. The contractor bags would probably to perfectly.

Well as long as you leave the bags whole they should have like around two layers
They normally work for me
=]
Now some can be too thin, but normally the generic black brand are well enough.
Although the contractor bags are thick AND dark

I was busy busy this morning working away on some new features. I crafted a reflector today out of some cardboard and a generously donated portion of mylar. I also covered the entire exterior of the box in heavy duty black garbage bags to prevent the light from escaping out. The reflector looks like it will be doing a good job. The garbage bags dont seem to have done much for increasing the reflectivity of the walls. They did however stop all light from leaking out of the room so I no longer have a glowing door in my basement. That is a major relief. I think I overwatered a little last night everyone was looking a bit droopy this morning when I began my work. I'm hoping they will perk up by tonight. If that is the case I will snap some photos of the changes to the set up. If not I will probably waiting until morning when they should hopefully be nice and perky.

Here are the pictures I talked about earlier. The reflector was difficult to get a good picture of but you can get an idea of what I was after. I took a sheet of cardboard roughly as big as my box, and covered it with mylar. Next I slotted the cardboard so that I could slide the cords from the clamp lamps into place. It is probably not the best possible reflector. Since it cost me $0 I wont complain. They are still looking a little droopy. They will bounce back though I just have to hold off on the water until they do.

Bare with me on the pictures. The only camera I have is my iSight. It is kinda difficult to position.
