Everyone has there own, it seems, so here is mine.
I cut the plant, trim it completely, then cut most bigger branches in half or thirds (so the biggest piece is about a foot or just under).
Then I put it in paper bags, one layer on the bottom of each bag, and wait. This takes roughly 5-10 days. I rotate the branches in the bag every day or two.
Once the buds begin to have some crispy feeling on the outside, I trim all the buds off the branches and put them in jars overnight.
Then I open the jars the next day and check on them. I usually leace the jars open about 12 hours depending.
Then I go to 8 hrs open the next day, and check on them. I always try to rotate the buds in the jar so they dont stick to the bottom/sides.
Depending on the wetness, which is still noticeable but not extremely wet, I go to 6 hrs a day open. Eventually, when the buds are light and perfect (not completely dry to the point of crumbling, but not wet by any means) I open the jar for 30 mins a day at most (sometimes only a minute).
Its all in getting the hang of it, I dont buy the idea that a month is the perfect amount of time to do it. That seems excessive to me, but to each their own. My method take about a week and a half to two weeks max.
All the times can be adjusted, but I like the sliding schedule.
Once I forgot I opened the jars, left them out overnight, and came in the next morning to crispy buds. Overdried, but didnt hurt them much, still stinky and a good smoke. So if anything overdrying is better than wet, potentially moldy buds!
I also do not buy the wait to jar until completely crispy and the stem breaks idea. This, as others have said, I think is too dry.
