my dog snapped at me

well, heres the story...

i got a preetty big great dane from some lady and he was 7 months old at the time

ive had him for probably 3 months now and hes a pretty good dog except for i have to keep him on a leash when i let him out cus he likes to run around.(the lady i bought him off of had a fence and my mom does as well so i think hes just used to it.

but anyways im at my dads whos yard isnt fenced in so he was running around my neighbors houses

then my neighbor rang the doorbell and he brought him back except my dogs collar slipped off.. so i called him inside and he came right in..

so i figured since he listened i wouldnt smack him for running off i was just gunna put him in my room.. but he knew he did something wrong so he didnt wanna come to me so he ran upstairs into the den(comp. room)

so i went in there and was at the back of the room and i went to grab him and he snapped at me... he didnt get any skin or anything but a big ass great dane snapping at you kinda freaks you out...

needless to say i have a pretty bad temper so i flipped shit on him. so i think i might be done with this dog...

well if you didnt act scared, and you flipped on him, then maybe he knows whos boss now. My firend has a pit, and sometimes it'll snap at him, and he acts all scared...and I'll just walk up to his dog and drag him by the neck and it doesnt do anything cause it knows I'm not scared of it. BUt yeah, if not, then I dont know. Maybe it was beat as a puppy or something.

yeah but i mean if its gunna snap at its owner whats it gunna do to a kid or a stranger...

oh and the first few times he met my friends at my house he growled at them

i thought it was funny tho cus i didnt tell my one friend i gotta dog and he saw it and screamed lol

I have an aggressive dog and you can't give up they make good pets when they figure out you are the boss,

dont grab at a dog.. that will trigger reflex from way back

even a good dog could snap if you try grabbing at him..



don't give up on the dog, just learn and be patient. you can do it!

and remember hes a wolf at heart.

That dog whisper dude is spot on. No shit it works. That is how I trained my dog and everyone says my dog is the most well behaved. The dog makes me paranoid because she follows me and looks at me sleeping but she is great.

i got a boston terrier and when he feels like he is being threatened severly he will flip his shit and snap.all dogs have a trigger..and if you are freaking out on a dog all unstable like expect thesame of the animal, if you cant hold your shit what are you to expect from a less evolved creature..if you are allready willing to give up on the dog maybe you should start looking for a real home for it and consider it a foster situation.
great danes are powerfull beast and need a steady, firm hand, not violent or agro.. they can do some serious damage just in play immagine it really pissed...

Don't be done just needs proper discipline. If it ever happens again immediately grab him flip him over and hold his muzzle until he stops resisting. This is a dominance move and you just have to let your dog know who is boss in an assertive but non-violent way. Hitting the dog will only make it worse just be a strong presence and make sure the dog understands that it must NEVER attack a person. I have a had lots of dogs like this once trained they were great. :peace:

i tried this early with a lab/rot mix, it didn't like it very much and bit the shit out of me, granted it was a little dog, but that thing was crazy and busted out some i'm a quick little dog with a fast bit shit on me, i wasn't ready for it and told him i would never do that again. ever since then we have been cool and we have learned personal space matters but i'm in charge and he can see it my eyes.

I guess if they are that aggressive I flip them and put a tight muzzle on them. I make them wear the muzzle around the house every time they misbehave too. They begin to understand quickly trick is to start early be consistent and remain calm. The dog will respect you more and be attentive to you as well.

Patience and training, you cant really expect a dog to know exactly what YOU are WANTING it to do, DO YOU? You have to work with it, and your a fag if you give up after one incident. Dogs are alot of work, especially if your too much of a lazy ass to go out and train it. It takes time, if you dont have it, give the dog to a more responsible person that cares enough to teach it what they want.


My dog Knows 50 verbal commands and 25 hand signals, It took me 2 years to teach him all of them. We started the day he turned 1 year old. Hes three now, and will make me a fucking cup of tea If I ask him to.
