My first grow... newb... need help!

Hi all, been browsing here for a while, kinda paranoid about posting but decided it was about time... i need help!
I'm on my first grow, here's some info:
Trying to grow 2 ICE plants in a closet (about 2 feet wide, 2 long, and 6 feet high space, not a lot I know but first try) using LED lighting, here's a link to the light I'm using: https://www.gianthydro.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=PPF-400R
Using soil, 5 gallon buckets, used 20-20-20 fert for the vegg stage
Started grow 10-24-11, ran the light 18/6 until 12-12-11 when plants were about 2ft and switched to 12/12. "pistols" i think is what they are called were present by 12/3.
I tried to keep the light at least 6" above the plants and continually raised the light until I ran out of room (plants are about 5' tall now and can't raise the light more).
Using this forum and other peoples grow journals and pix I was sure the plants were both female (because of pistols and lots of the white "hair" present) but by the beginning of January, the plants were full of pollen balls...
I was thinking the plants may have hermied and figured I could at least get some seed from them. They finally have some show of female-hood now showing some bud, or more like little seed forming.
There should be no light getting into the closet at all when the led is in off stage.
I guess my main question should be is should I let the plants keep going and see what I can get out of them or are they a lost cause?
Also, I had a lot of trouble figuring out exactly when to switch the light to 12/12, at what point in time should that be done for sure (for future grows)? Does anyone have any experience with ICE? Typically how long does it take (start to finish), how long should veg stage take, flowering... anything you guys could help me with would be awesome! Any questions just ask! I couldn't really get any good pix with the tin foil lining the closet (have mylar for the next grow), so if they are necessary let me know and I can maybe get a few up (like I said, paranoid about posting anyway, especially pix)...

you can go 12/12 at any stage of veg growth. you maybe had a light leak, or temp issues?

Dang that was fast, thanks! Temp has been a little cool I know but already upped the heat in the house to keep it decent, pretty consistent between 68-72 F

Temps were my guess too, but it sounds like you have it dialed out. Do you have a thermometer in the closet itself?

Is there good ventilation going into the closet?

We could use some pictures to really help. Sometimes plants put out a real deceptive fake seed pouch. Basically it can look like it's seeded when really it's just the form the bud has taken. Something to consider.



One thing to do, when the lights are out and your ready for sleep, turn all lights out in your room and let your eyes adjust for 15 min. Then, as best you can, go into your closet with the plants and see if there is any light. Sme led panels dont react well with some electrical timers and actually don't fully turn off, or there could be some light leak from some other place.

Yes I have a thermometer hanging right next to the plants. There is very decent ventilation in the closet, i leave the other half the plants aren't in partially open and a fan running in the closet, making sure not too blow too directly on the plants. I've tested the off cycle on a few occasions and there seems to be no light leaking into the closet, but for my next grow I've designed a kinda curtain thing to make sure this isn't a problem. I've watched the lights going on and off as well and it doesn't seem to have any problem switching on or off. I have a few pix and will post them, but they aren't very good. Thanks!

Ah sorry to be the bearer of bad news, that 100% male, from all i see, i don't even see any signs of female flowers.

You can get a little hash out of males and it's best to early harvest them.

Where did you get the seeds?

They could just be the worst hermies I've ever seen, but i think they are just male.

lol your kidding right?? what you thought were pistils are called stipules and both sexes get those..from the looks of it you are actually sitting there growing a male plant lol....chop that thing down and start over!!

kermit, thanks for the correction, googled the stipules and you are correct. Do males ever get the little white pistils? There are a few on some of the ends of branches (can kind of see them in pix 3 & 5).

Maybe i missed it, but were they regular seeds or feminized?

When i buy seeds i generally go with feminized, mostly due to legal considerations, but as well for convenience. If you go with a good breeder the fem seeds are usually pretty stable.

I would recommend nirvana for a good introductory seed. From them I've grown a k48(didn't really love), aurora indica, jock horror, full moon, and snow white.

Snow white prooved to be hardy, easy to control, and a great effect, so far for me the ultimate feel good strain.

On others recommendations i have gone with sannies seeds, killing fields to be specific. Getting ready to flower, but i hear their gear is amongst the top for a great price.


You can always use the plant you have to make some rope...

They were regular Ice seeds from bds (http://www.buydutchseeds.com/ice-marijuana-seeds). Looked them up again and their site and info on seeds has changed and now they have it listed as an outdoor, frustrating. still have 8 more try again at least will have to look into the other types you listed, thanks for the tips!
