My First Grow Take Two

Ok I started my first grow about a month ago. I had to go out of town and the crop died. I've learned and started again.

I am growing super skunk from Nirvana Seeds.

Germinated in their Germination kit. I am not sure if I like it or not. My last germination, I received 10 solid sprouts from wet paper towels. That did well as seedlings and only died because of overwatering and fertilizing. But solid seeds from the start. The Nirvana seeds took longer to germinate... only 7 seeds made it. Two of the seedlings look like runts and are not keeping up with the other 5 but I am keeping them going never the less.

INew grow began 7 days ago (Aug 18 2009)it it is one week in. Bigger pots that my first grow. The plants are growing thicker and look better than last grow. I am doing soil.

50% Ocean Forest
20% Sunshine
15% Periculum
15% vermiculite

I am using 8 100 Watt CFL lights in a closet. 6 Bright Daylight (1600 lums each) 2 soft white. The walls of my closet are covered in Mylar. I even laid some mylar under the plants so that light hits lower, under leafs.

PH about 6.0
Temp about 84 degrees. I have fans going bringing in and sending out air.

So far watering only 3 days. Watered today. Wil not water again till Sunday. No nutes at the moment but plan to use the fox farm trio starting week 3.
I would love any feedback.

My grow closet is 2 1/2 ft x 3 ft. I am guessing that this is not enough room once the plants begin to grow more. I am thinking about buying grow tent and upgrade to 400W HPS. I want this one to work.

I am a little paranoid of nites. everyone told me NO NITES till 3rd week. What would you recommend?

But his I have noticed a HINT of yellowing to the leaves.

Right now I have 7 plants going (pics in original post). I am growing in a box about 2 1/2 x 3 x 5 feet in dimension.

I figure that its fine for the next week or so but will probably get pretty crowded in a month.. My plan is to build a small growroom for the rest of the growth and flowering. I'll keep the growbox for mama plant.

Here are my questions:

Referring to comment that I need nitrogen... my next watering is Sunday. Can it wait till then? I am paranoid about overwatering since that killed my first attempt. I plan on slowly adding in Fox Farm Grow Big. What do you recommend?

As I have stated, I have 8 CFLs at this stage. Can I continue with CFLs for flowering or do I need to jump up to a 400W HPS lamp?

Finally, what size pots should I ultimately have my plants in? According to seed description these guys onlly grow 3 feet tall.

I'll keep posting pics. Thanks in advance for comments.:eyesmoke:

Watering every 3 days. Watered today. Added 1/4 tsp fox farm grow big to the gallon water. That's about 1/4 the reg dose. Wanted to add nitrogen to help with slight discolor. Plants looking great. Even the 2 runt plants looking good. They haven't caught up with the others yet but looking good. will upload new pics tomorrow.

Its amazing to see just how much the plants can grow in such a short span of time! I watered yesterday and went away for the night.

My grow closet says the temp is reaching 87 degrees but i have a great oscillating fan blowing across so I am helping that remedies the situation.

Everything is looking good. Pics attached.

A couple notes:

closet is covered wall to wall and ceiling mylar for good lighting. I also took mylar scraps and placed them in pot on soil so that light would reflect up to hit bottom leaves. It takes a few minutes to remove or replace, but since I water only every 3-4 days no big deal.

I added 1/4 tsp of Fox Farm Grow Big to about 1 gallon of H20 for watering. I know I shouldn't add nutes till week 3 but it was suggested that I add nitrogen as first pics showe leaves slightly discolored. The recommended dose on bottle is 1 TSP per gallon so I figured adding a little now wont hurt.

I plan to look for or build a bigger grow closet. Perhaps buy a tent... but I will most likely build one with PVC and white plastic like ones I've seen on YouTube. I will hopefully be able to buy the 400 Watt light in the night week or so. I won't use it till I build bigger space since heat is already an issue.

Oh ya... I found a spider on one of my plants. I flicked it off quick. It looked like a regular old wolf spider that climbed its way in there. Are spiders ever a problem?

Still no reply on pots. My plants are said to grow to about 3 feet... how big of a pot should I ultimately have my plants in?

Thanks in advance!

For a three foot plant, it couldn't hurt to get pots roughly 75% bigger than now. The more room the roots have, the better. But be careful not to disturb them when you transplant them, as stress could stunt the plants' growth.

Thanks for the info on the pots. I think I'll be heading to Home Depot tonight to buy the lumber for the new grow room. I figure I'll build it 3 ft deep. X 4 ft long x 5 ft high. I'll use my old box for a mother plant. I'll send pics as I build the bigger space.

im proud of u,+rep4u bc u are thinking with ur grow like a true dedicated grower.

why not try puttin 4 42s on the side of the mother, its an extra 10000 lumens that will help branch out the mother and it will make for some nice compact clones that when rooted will be a bush of their own.

I will definitely do that. I don't have a mother yet... just 7 little ones... should I put 42s on the side right now?

Currently I have 6 100W bright daylight CFLs and 2 100W soft lights CFLs amongst them.

Also... thanks for the feedback and compliment. I am trying to do this right so its good to hear I am on the right path.

try sexing them soon, till they show then u can widdle out the males and decide witch mother to use as a mother, then u should put the 42s on the sides, fim the mother and set it up as a bonsai so u can get a bitch load of clones and it will look like a bush, the rep u gave didnt go through.

u have 100w equivs not exactly 100w bulbs, cfls are the shit though,i got 22,800 total lumens with my cfls, theyre goin to make for some nice bud when the plants bud.

wanna hear a weird thing?....i got one bagseed that has a deep purple stem, that has nice green leaves growing, and as the leaves age from the bottom up,the bottoms turn from green,to yellow, and then into a pink hue,its weird, but theyre healthy and are not dry or crisp, its not a nute problem bc the leaves are viable and all the plants have the same treatment, feedings,ph,soil, ect. its weird but i hope its a girl bc id like to see the buds on it.i like those genetics bc i never had a plant that did that, and some other bags from same bud/place are growin just fine and green. thought i give a weird tidbit that i found interesting

That plant sounds weird. I'd like to see that. Any pics?

I'm going to read up on flowering and sexing today. I'm new at this and don't want to mess it up. How long does it take between the time I change to 12/12 and the time the plants start to show their sex?

I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the help.

Says I have to spread around rep before I can credit you again. I'll come back and do it after I read flowering threads.

Thanks!

Here is what I'm growing...

Skunk #1 25,00EUR

Skunk #1 is the first stablized hybrid developed for indoor cultivation and dates back to the 1970’s California region. Skunk #1 has a heritage of Afghani, Mexican gold and Colombian gold. It was brought to Europe in the early 1980’s and plays a heavy role in the ancestry of any modern indoor strain. This plant has a great consistency of generating a good strong punch with a great skunky sweet taste. Skunk #1 will take a lot of abuse and performs well both indoor and in a greenhouse.

  • Plant type: Best suitable for indoor growing.
  • Plant height: Medium- Indica/Sativa mix
  • Stoned or high?: Stoney yet high- Allround Buzz
  • THC level: Medium 8-15%
  • Flowering Weeks: 8/10
  • Yield (Sea of Green on one m2) : 400-500
  • Harvest Month: 9/10
  • Grow difficulty: Easy (Good for beginners)

Today, I transplanted into larger pots. The garden shop was out of Sunshine Mix so I mixed 80% Ocean Forest and 20% perlite. Only problem now is that these larger plants spread out my pots a few more inches so I can't get the bulbs as close to the leaves. Tomorrow I will try to fix the lighting problem. Plus, I think I am going to buy a grow tent off ebay. I have a feeling that I am going to need more room.

I also thoroughly watered the plants to try to get the dirt to settle. I added a lite dose of Big Grow. We'll see if my plants grow BIG BIG BIG or I stress them out and kill them. I'll post soon.

I do have a few questions for you guys... what does: "Yield (Sea of Green on one m2) : 400-500" mean? 400-500 grams? and "one m2"?

Plants seem to have taken transplant well. 1 plant got a little burned on a leaf but it was isolated to the one leaf.

Changed timer to 12/12 last night. I figured we are about 20 or 21 days along so it was about time to force them into flowering.

When I repotted to larger containers, the plants ended up spread out so it was harder to get bulbs close to all plants. I also got a side lamp with a splitter to accomodate the plant that was left out. I got the splitter idea from the Buds For Less book. If you CFL grow and do not have this book... run do not walk to your bookstore and buy this! Thanks seemorebuds! :-P

Also, everything relocated to a new location. Found a friend with medical card so we will tend at his place.

Being set up in a hydro hut. I'll send pictures when all setup.

Here are todays pics.

So I checked the plants tonight to make sure my new timer settings are working. One plant has a few rusty spots. Anyone know what this can be?

It is the same plant that had a little yellow after I transplanted and the same plant that I put new lights next to today. Any help would be appreciated.

Its the only plant with this problem.

Pics attached.

Rusty spots haven't grown much. And still isolated to the one plant so I will just keep an eye on it.

I am not concerened anyways. I have too many plants and am looking forward to sexing so I can ditch a plant or 2.

This grow is for personal medical supply. It will never be for sale or leave the house. The maximum I am allowed to have is 6 plants at a time to keep it legal. I am just waiting to sex the plants before I toss one of my babies. Besides, I don't know what I would do with 7 plants worth of harvest - nor do I want to tend 7 plants when they reach 3 or 4 foot tall.

Plants are a bit dry and I'm going out for the weekend. So I am going to water later this afternoon. Will be adding Grow Big again plus I am going to start adding Big Bloom to the water. I'll start light and work my way up to a full dose.:leaf:
