My First Grow

Hey everyone. This is my first journal on RIU so hopefully some of you get interested and follow along. This is also my first time growing cannabis, so any advice is welcomed.

Enclosure - Two 30 Gallon Rubbermaids.
- 6" exhaust fan
- 3" intake fan
- 4 42watt cfls
- 2 26watt cfl daylights
- 2 PVC Passive intakes

I'll be posting pictures of my enclosure soon.

I'll be growing Sour Deisel and Thia.

I germinated my seeds using the paper towel method. I stored the towels in a food container to retain moisture and kept them on top of my computer tower for warmth.
Once the seeds developed a root, I planted them in Expert Gardeners Perfect Soil.

I'm still running the lights 24/0. I'm having some problems with the timer I bought, but I'm not worried about too much light this early in life. I also bought a thermometer/hygrometer at wal-mart. It works well. The temps hover right around 80 degrees with the tubs are closed up. When I have them open to check on the plants it usually drops to about 73 so, I don't think there's too much heat.

I've purchased all of the nutrients I'll be needing during the entire process. Those include: Alaska Fish Emulsion, Miracle Grow Bloom Burst, and Superthrive.
I haven't started using any nutrients yet though. I'm weary about them. Anyone have any advice?

I'm also curious about watering. I've been watering about every other day. They seem to be doing alright, but I've heard different things about over and under watering. I have a moisture meter that I've been using but I still don't know how to gauge when the best time to water is. Any advice?

So here are the (hopefully) girls.
The first is the Thia. It seems to be taking off much faster than the two Sour Deisel plants. They've been in soil now for about 4 days. What do you guys think? Is this looking pretty good for 4 days in soil?

Becuase of space constraints, I'm going to use the LST (low stress training) method to hopefully kill two birds with one stone. Those birds being shorter plants and bigger buds.

I'm also planning on putting a two liter of fermenting sugar in the box to create some co2. Hopefully that will spark some growth.

Welcome to Rollitup, this is a great community full of helpful people and i'm sure you'll enjoy your stay.
Growing weed is great, and its really true that you get out what you put in. Forethought, hard work and patience will reward you with amazing bud.

80f is acceptable, i wouldn't let it get any hotter than that though.
Your soil has nutrients in it so i would wait to give them any food for a while. Its much better to underfeed than to overfeed.
You should water your plants when the soil is dry, but not completely dehydrated. Making sure to water until you get some runoff from the bottom of your pots (you do have holes in the bottom of your pots right?). You should make sure your water is between 6 and 6.8 or it could cause some problems.
How close are you keeping those CFLs?
Your plants look good.

Anyhow, heres a couple budshots of my own homegrown, you'll have some of your own soon enough.

Hey, thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for the tips. I have holes in my pots. And i usually don't get much runoff if any, but I'll keep that in mind from now on. I need to invest in a ph meter, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. The lights are about 4 inches above the plants. I have boxes stacked in the bottom to raise the plants. Stay tuned.:eyesmoke:

I'm going to be posting some new pictures soon so you guys can get an idea of what my enclosure looks like. I'm not sure how soon they'll be up, but my lights are on all the time so it'll be today for sure. Thanks to everyone who's been stopping by to check out my thread. I can use all the help you guys have to give, so feel free to comment.

Also, I had a few questions about transplanting into bigger pots. When is the best time to tell its time to switch pots? I'm not sure how to judge exactly when its time. Also, is there anything I can use to reduce stress from the change? Thanks for the help.

Hello again. I hope some of you have become interested in this thread. As i promised, here are some pictures of my enclosure.

I cut the bottom out of the top rubbermaid tub and cut the lid of the bottom rubbermaid to create some space inside. I taped the two tubs together on the inside to block out light and spray painted the inside of the tubs white for light reflection.

To mount the lights I used two zipties and mounted a power strip upside-down. Next I used outlet to socket adapters and used three ysplitters.

The fans are wired with 9v wall units and they run much quieter this way.

The hoods on the outside of the tubs are used simply to block light.

The PVC pipes are passive intakes to control temperatures.

The last picture is of the tubs all closed up. I keep them covered with a dark blanket and it keeps it pretty stealthy. I wouldn't recomment trying to hide it from your parents or anything.

What do you guys think about the setup?

I checked on the plants today. My Thai plant is looking very lush and healthy. But I am getting very worried about the sour deisel. One of them is still looking okay, but not like the thai. The other has digressed since I checked on them yesterday. The false leaves are browning and seem to be falling back into the soil, so to speak. The pictures are here, but it's hard to tell what I am saying. The sours are still very small and hard to get in focus on my camera. I think it has something to do with my heat, or watering. I'm not sure. Anyone have any idea what this might be?

The first picture is of the sick plant. I'm sorry it's hard to see. I'll try to get a better picture up.

The second picture is of the Thai. It looks very pretty.

The third is the other sour deisel. Its still very small, but looks healthy otherwise.

What do you guys think?!?!

Its hard to tell at the distance what it could be.. maybe overwatering ?

Anyway, looks like you have a really nice setup, hope the grow goes well.

Hey thanks for stopping. Glad you like the setup. I watered everyday until the the plants broke the soil then backed off quite a bit. I have been watering every 2 days. Thanks for the tip though. I'll keep that in mind:eyesmoke:
