Hey everyone,
I've been lurking around for a while, and I think I'm ready to start my own grow! I am currently a grad student in norcal, and I have a medicinal
license, but everything stated beyond in this thread is, of course, ficticious.

Being a student, I have relatively limited funds, so I have been researching the best way to have a great grow with a great yield, at as low-cost as
possible. I have no prior experience, so I was thinking of growing in soil for safety, until I happened on https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/59705-hempy-collective.html So I'm hoping it will be able to provide massive growth and yield with the ease of soil.
At this point, I do not have mostof the equipment, but I have a list of parts, and links to specific vendors that I think will offer the best bang for the buck. I will be moving ahead with my grow quickly, and I will make sure to post a TON of HIGH-RES pics, so that I can help you all as well as myself.

Go to the loading dock of the dining hall where you go to school. You should be able to score a large quantity of 5 gallon and smaller buckets. They recycle loads of this stuff and you can have it for free. 5 gallon buckets can cost you 6 or 7 bucks at Home Depot. Hempy Rules.

These are the items I'm planning on ultimately purchasing for the grow. They are all linked to the cheapest source that I could find, and I am very open to suggesstions on my selections:

I am going to use a grow tent for the flowering stage of my grow. The tent will likely be a $170 Homebox L from: http://cheaphydroponics.com/store/grow-tents/cat_66.html but I am open to any suggestions on whether this is a good idea. I won't need to purchase the tent for a while, but I'm keeping this one in mind.

In the tent, I'm planning on having an HTG 400W HPS bulb/ballast. Cost: $119(Link here: http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=47929 ) I am also going to add the Euro Reflector ($59) so that the light can be aircooled using ducting.

One end of the ducting will go to a DIY carbon filter. Cost: $20-30 (Link here: https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/7074-easy-build-diy-carbon-filter.html )

The other end of the ducting will go to a 650/300CFM 10" Inline Fan. Cost: $45. (Link here: http://www.businesslights.com/suncourt-10-inch-inline-duct-fan-wpowercord-p-2075.html ).

Here are a few pics of a similar set-up, so you can get the idea.

So today I grabbed a few bagseeds, and popped them into a wet paper towel, into a plastic bag, and then I set it on top of my cable modem. (Keeps it nice and warm - about 75 degrees)

In the meantime, I have set up my small closet veg. grow room. I am using 8 23w Greenlite bulbs. I found a pack of 12 for only $20 here: http://itsonsale.com/Items/23w-els-m_12?sck=19116433&caSKU=23w-els-m_12&caTitle=12 Greenlite Compact Fluorescent Light CFL Bulb 23w/100w 23W/ELS/M/Z/4 I had a good experience with the seller - two of the bulbs arrived broken, so they promptly sent me a box of 4 soon after.

The sockets are from Ikea, and they are only $4 each. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10175810 They are basically a regular lamp socket, attached to 6 feet of very good quality cable to a 110v plug. They are ideal for my closet, because I can just hang them from the hanging rod in my closet. Cheap, simple, and easy to adjust for the size of the plants. Plus, I can use them to directly place a light bulb wherever I think I may need it.

For the vegetative period, I am planning on using a 4ft. wide, flat plastic storage container to put my pots in. It is designed to store clothing, shoes, etc. under a bed. It probably cost somewhere between $15-25.

16 oz styrofoam cups, with a pen sized hole in the side, about 1" up from the bottom. Pack of 30 or so for 99 cents at the local supermarket.

The perlite is from a very local nursery, and it's relatively cheap. $7 for 12 quarts. Probably not the cheapest, but the place is right around the corner.

29 cent drip trays from the nursery.

A relatively cheap thermometer that measures two temps (one at the unit, and one at the end of the cable). It also measures rel. humidity. It was only about $10-12 from Lowe's, so I'm not sure how reliable it is, but whatever.

Cheapest aquarium Ph tester from Petsmart. About $5. I'm pretty sure I'll have to upgrade this in the near future, because its pretty hard to read, and is not as accurate as a digital. But I don't have money for anything like that just yet, so if anyone can recommend something under $50 that can read Ph, PPM, etc., I am all ears.

That's it for now; I'll post up when I get some germinated babies :)

norcalhotness - are you not around anymore? this thread looks like it has died...if you are still pursuing this, check out my grow, may help to give you some ideas, at http://www.planetganja.com/highsociety/showthread.php?t=95896 .... I hope the tent is working out for you, I dont think those are very handy at all, mostly a restriction in space that you cant do anything about, I like the filter diy, so you made a 10" one? Can we some some pictures of that? I am looking to be making a 6" one, with a like 500cfm inline fan... I am also doing hempy buckets, but with autoflowering strains, its an amazing thing having them autoflower, can grow all my plants, vegging to flowering under the same light schedule...anyways hope everything is going well and hope you are still around the boards, grow on

Peace/Love/Joy
