My First Hydro Grow - Master Kush

Hello, all. Right now I'm growing eight Master Kush plants that are about 3 1/2 weeks old. These are from feminized seeds. Two of the plants are in bad shape. It's not looking like they'll make it. Here's the family:

Sorry for the bad pics(wasn't able to budget for a decent cam):

My setup:

Homebox - 3.3'x3.3' grow tent

600W MH, plants are about 40" from the light. Before I transplanted them into the buckets they were in a clone tray. During that time they were around 30" from the light. Temps in the box vary from 72-88 degrees(on really hot days). Lately the temp has been under 82 degrees. I added the desk fan the other day, before I had a smaller 6" fan.

Hydro system - Ebb & Gro

I'm using General Hydroponics one part Flora Grow. Prior to transplanting, I kept the nute PPM at around 600, and the PH at around 6. Right now the PPM is 1200 and PH at 5.5. I have the system feeding them 3-4 times per day during the light cycle, which is 18 on, 6 off.

I'm really hoping my sick ones recover. All comments and critiques are welcome. I'm not really sure what else I should do to help the stressed ones.

I've been doing some reading and it appears likely that my plants have been nute-burned. I added more water to my rez and the PPM is around 900. I'll be flushing as soon as I can get more water(have to go to the store). I hope to have a nice little reverse osmosis setup by week's end.

Another question that I have, when is the best time to feed? I'm not supposed to feed just prior to darkness, right? How many hours should pass after a feeding before the lights go out?

Here they are as of a day or two ago:

They're all a good 8 inches. I'm surprised that even the really sick one has come back to life, though it still has some healing to do. I'm going to be flushing with Clearex in a few days to remove all the built-up nutrient salts. I'm hoping that makes it easier for some of the yellow spotting to go away, we'll see. With any luck I'll be inducing flowering by this time next week.

Right now I have fresh water in the rez. PPM is around 80, I'm guessing this is because there was some residue in the controller bucket inside the box. I'll have to remember to do that when I flush next time. By the way, I ended up buying a pretty kick-ass reverse-osmosis system. My water comes out of the tap at around 500PPM and with the new filter unit I can get it down to less than 5. My water problems are officially a thing of the past. I won't have to buy drinking water anymore either. I'm hoping that the RO unit will be the last major investment before harvest.

Ro water is totally unnecessary and a waste of money, i have grown for 17 years all in the most part using flood and drain systems. I have ALWAYS used tap water usually with a high alkalinity and high ppm (250-350ppm) Your grow looks just fine but keep an eye on what your plants are drinking each day. If your water levels are dropping, but, nute levels are increasing then they are only taking water and so on. Basically until you get water and nute levels dropping together then your levels are too high.Hence nute burn! G luck!

Thanks for the comments. I get what you're saying about RO, but my household water is about 500 PPM and I have seen the damage it has done on four plants that were grown outdoors in potting soil.

Anyhow, here's a mini-update. Tonight I'll be draining my rez and I'll be flushing my plants with Clearex for the next 3-4 days before I induce flowering, hopefully this weekend. I want to try and get these little ladies as healthy as possible before switching to 12/12.

Right now each of the girls are a good 9" tall. I'm hoping they'll reach 12 by week's end. Lately they've been growing about an inch per day, so I think that's reasonable. Today marks the 37th day of my grow since I first dropped the seeds in water. Here are some pics I shot a little while ago:

My ladies are all a good 10 inches now. Just a couple of more days to go before 24+ hours of darkness. The Clearex flush seems to be helping. Even the sickest plant is coming back to life. Its worst-looking leaves look to be rebounding. It's the one pictured first on the right, second row. For some reason it's still the tallest one! Here are some new pics:

Tonight will mark three days of flushing with Clearex. I think it's time that I perform a rez change and re-introduce some nutes(half strength). I'll be cutting the lights for a good 48 hours. My plants won't get any light until Sunday at 9PM, which is when I'll be switching to 12/12. It's going to be really hard to not peek in on my girls for two whole days! As of this morning, all of them were at least 11". I can't wait to check how much they have grown on Sunday. Pics will follow when possible.

Whatchu got on my 40, homie?

By the way, rez change went ok. My plants have been in total darkness for about nine hours so far. They won't see that new HPS bulb until Sunday at 9PM. I introduced some nutes this morning. I'm using the cheap GH Flora Bloom. PPM is 1200 and PH is 5.7. I plan to grab some molasses when I next go to the store. I think I might try using it every other rez change just to see how the girls respond. I'm told that it's safe to use the stuff all through bloom. One other thing, what a huge difference it makes in my room not having that fucking light on! The box is a cool 70 degrees and the AC is only on low. I'll be running the light from 9PM to 9AM from this point on. I expect it to be dramatically cooler in my room during the day from now on.

Looks can be deceiving....and so can a shitty cam under yellow/orange lighting. There are some yellowing leaves on a few of the plants but they are rebounding nicely so far.

This is my first indoor grow. I've experiemented with a couple of outdoor grows but circumstances prevented me from seeing them to completion. Thanks for the encouragement.
