My first ISO attempt

I did my first small batch of ISO with what ISO I had around the house.
I used sugar trim, small popcorn nugs.

Froze everything beforehand
-Swirled trim/Iso lightly for 25seconds.
-poured through 2 coffee filters into mason jar
-Sat in bathroom overnight in glass dish with oscilatting fan on low.

It came out as a tanish yellow very very light brown powder?

Where did you see this "step by step" your talking about? Because imo if that's AL you did your missing some steps..maybe wrong but I've never heard of such a few steps

He's doing it the older way that I haven't seen or read in years where you just let the iso evaporate scrap then smoke. No water no purge to get the alcohol out etc. just straight evaporation and what ever is left is smoked I'm sure there's some iso left let alone the water that was in the iso. But I know ur thinking of strain, purge etc

I been following qwisoking as he has proven hes knowledgeable. I strained it just didnt do any form of purge as he says its not necessary. I pressed it together in parchment and it looks better now.

Haven't in years prob 10-12 when I was high school. Now it's just BHO, Shatter, and all that good stuff.

Exactly the same way; looks the same as mine when I ran it ...qwizoking & many others here do it the same as this- fuck the haters; you did it just fine. I'm still partial to BHO but ya gotta start somewhere & qwiso is just so eazzzo. Sometimes I used to heat it back up in a hot water bath to melt it into a taffy/shatter-like product but that gold dust is ok as is; melting it just makes it easier to work with & pull dabs off IMO

I put it between parchment paper and gave pressure. Im doing a bigger batch of my good sugar trim before I use buds, going to do it the same way. 25seconds barely shaking it. Barely was green last time hmm..

1. Freeze everything. Including the material and the alcohol.

2. Just add the material and alcohol in some kind of glass. Say a mason jar.

3. Swirl the alcohol around the material for only X seconds. 20-25 seconds seem popular so it doesn't break down the material into the product.

Q? Everclear 190 will work as the alcohol correct?

4. Place in a glass Pyrex dish with a fan moving air around it until the alcohol evaporates.

5. Scrape the Qwiso out of the Pyrex with a razor blade. Ready to smoke.

Is this correct? And is this really all the steps? I mean I love simple. This sounds really simple. Thx.

I froze my 91% ISOPROPYL ALC (from walgreens) and my product overnight.

1. I put my trim in mason jar, then filled jar with ISO till trim is completely covered

2. I barely shook it, just swirled it around for 25second with one somewhat hard shake at the end

3. I used a big mason jar and put a funnel in it, then 2 coffee filters in the funnel. I poured liquid into coffee filtered funnel WITHOUT letting any trim go into the filter, my thought is itd break down chlorophyll while draining.

4. I put liquid in 8x8 GLASS pan, in my spare bathroom with a fan oscilatting on low. I put a mesh screen over the pan so nothing flies into the liquid.

I didnt purge as qwizoking says he doesnt but some people do. I guess you can use a double boiler and put the qwiso pan on the very top. I got a powder like substance, I pressed it inbetween parchment paper and it made that brown\goldish ball. I have another batch waiting at home, its with "quality sugar trim" as a 2nd test before I use actual buds.

Thanks man. I was thinking Everclear because it was consumable. Iso I am sure is much cheaper. I may try a test run myself on some bunk. Anyway, appreciate it.

This might help some people.

Vapor pressures increase in a non-linear fashion. more heat causes the heavier compounds with higher boiling points to be lost during evap in higher proportions. This can be easily seen when quick drying buds.

Using less heat during evap will preserve more terpenes and especially if using fresh frozen material you will likely get goop instead of shatter. Your finished product looks pretty normal. A powder like consistency is common

Using a fan will Help speed the evap drastically, 2000 cfm at 77°, 1 pint 99% iso takes ~26-28hrs. Of course this is still a significant chunk of time..thin film is important

Unlike bho which extracts alot of fats, qwiso is not nearly as hard to evap. Those fats make a film on the oil as it dries, so much so that even with its low bp, heat is needed to break surface tension AND overcome atmospheric pressure. When doing a quick wash on iso its more like a winterized bho..but winterizing still leaves lots of low weight fats. This is called the "iodine value" as seen below.

This is not an outdated solvent or method. While bho is much easier and fool proof. My "freeze dried" iso is pure connoisseur hash. Its a great middle ground between polarities of ethanol and bho. Extracting just what i like

My way is simple, qwizoking has much better equipment and experience but Im totally happy with my results.

All I do is put bud in a mason jar(I use the big ones) and put it in the freezer until the next night (24hours.)

All the items used are:
2 mason jars
Funnel
2 coffee filters (unbleached preferred but I used white ones)
Glass brownie pan
Fan
Something to put over brownie pan that lets air through but blocks debris from getting in qwiso

Follow what I wrote above for a very simple effective qwiso. Qwisoking has a nice writeup on it somewhere.

What I am looking for is not the procedure but the results.
I was interested to see the result of a smal scale extraction. All the posts and videos I have seen use rediculus amounts of weed! 10 Oz or 100 grams!

Is extraction worth the the trouble and weed?

I use about 10 grams minimum (I grow my own bud or I wouldnt make qwiso) The picture is the end result of a "1st" flush. The 1st flush always gives me higher quality powder which I put between parchment paper and press together. Turns into shatter looking.

My 2nd flushes end up semi gooey, not powder but still works good. I havnt weighed any end results but its definitley worth it if you have extra bud.

Thanks for the answer Kind Sir.
I am flowering eight plants. Two are almost ready but I have been cutting and smok ing them (oven drying).
If I make ISO with fresh unfrozen weed the result will be green and gooey but if I´m just going to smoke it then it wouldn´t matter much or would it? (I am thinking ISO instead of oven drying)
