My first time growing, should I go with DWC or SWC?

Before I start, I would just like every1 to know I'm really not growing bud. This is just a script from a movie I'm writing which I'm hoping will star Samuel L. Jackson  Now with that said here's the movie script. I'm kind of torn between SWC and DWC. I am setting up for both of them. I have a SWC res, which is 10 gallon (34 3/4"x16 1/2"x6"). It has 6, 5" net pots. I will upload pic later. Then I have a DWC res that is 18 gallon (25 1/2"x17 1/2"x15 3/8"). It has 5, 5" net pots in it. Now this is the first time I'm growing indoors/hydroponically. I'm so excited, yet scared cause I want my babies to make it all the way. I'm starting off with 2- (48")40 watt flo for the first month or so. I also have a 10-30 gallon airpump. For the airstones should I get 12", or 24", and how many should I put in the res? I'm using peat moss plugs and hydroton as medium, and I have Dutch Master's Gold A & B. Now the guy at the garden store was trying to get me to purchase other products like Dutch Master Silica and Zone. Do I need that stuff? How often should I check my nutrients, and how often should I change the res during veg and flowering? And besides the pH balance, what other levels should I be checking for? Can the plants come out of the water so I can change the res? I now to make sure the new water is to be standing for 3 days. Do I put the nutrients in the water 3 days before I change the res or right before I change the res? Also do I take the pH balance before I add the nutrients or after? Also can I start off with SWC for the veg, and then switch them to the DWC for the flowering. I have ordered Barney's Feminized Blue Cheese through Attitude. I can't freakin' wait. It also comes with 5 G13 Labs Super Skunk. For starters I'm thinking about just starting out with 2 of the Feminized Blue Cheese seeds as a test run, just for practice. I'm thinking about growing the Blue Cheese or the Super Skunk from seedlings on through flowering, being I've never grown indoors and have never cloned. I want to make sure I can get hydroponics down before I go cutting a plant and messing it up. My last question is this. For a closet set up, of 5-6 plants (keeping in mind the dimensions of the res I spoke of early), should I use a 400 hps, or 1000 hps, cause I have access to both. I apologize for this long book of a message, but I really want to make sure this works. Anyone who can give some helpful hints or advice, I will greatly appreciate it.*******I posted this in a discussion group here. Just trying to get different input.
