i'm about ready to shut down my indoor light. i have been running it on 12/12 for 10 months now. this was my first experience with an HPS light. it is 600w, my flower area is 3' X 3'. i have learned a lot over this past year (close enough). things that i never saw over 20 years of outdoor. heere are a few......
1. indoor plants are 100X less forgiving than outdoor. then veg time is very short. i find that the veg cycle is very important. if a plant is not set up right in veg you will not yield it fullest potential. outdoors i have months to build a strong, solid, well formed plant. i can over-feed it, under-feed it, over-water it and under-water it. then simply change what i did wrong and let it recover. indoors i don't have this kind of time. an over-fed plant can set me back weeks.
2. problems must be taken care of immediately. any disease or pest must be stopped now. outside i can put it off a week maybe 2. watch the plants and determine exactly what they need. then simply treat the whole garden. inside bugs can take over in a few days. i can't just spray them down. the mylar gets dirty. the leaves burn. i have to wait until the light goes out. i have to pull each plant out and spray it. much more "clinical".
3. trying to flower 20 plants in different stages is hard. nutes must be mixed differently per plant and growth stage. stretching and burning can occur if heights aren't properly adjusted. outside the sun and season do it all for me.
4. outside my plant fade, i give then nutes. the tips of the leaves start to burn, i back off. inside my plants fade and i have no idea what's going on. is the light to close? are they locked up? do i need to feed?
5. indoor weed LOOKS beautiful. taste great. good high. but......... it fades fast. i smoke A LOT of indoor. outdoor tends to have extra leaf growth within the buds. can have a "gamy" flavor yet still be very good. the high is a much longer high. outdoor weed goes a looooooong way.
indoor has it's advantages. especially for a medical patient like myself. it kept me supplied with meds thru-out the winter year. i have 9 raft clones being set-up in veg at the moment. the are under floros so i can let them chill for awhile. i will let what's in my flower room now finish for about a week more. a few will be moved outside to finish. i will shut it down. i plan on tearing out all the old mylar. replacing the exhaust fan with a bigger unit. moving the smaller fan to my veg room. i will sheet rock part of the plastic walls and put plywood on the ceiling to mount my light. at the moment the roof is plastic and i have a cross beam for the light. it limits my where i can hang my light. i will seal my floor with an epoxy paint. i will seal all my cracks in the walls and paint the sheet rock. i still have not decided on drainage. i will come up with something once i clean the room and start on the floor. i can drill thru the floor or walls if need be.
so that's my plan and my story. thanks for watching.
