My grow-10'x8'x7' room space, 1-2 600w HPS, some questions

Hey you guys, I am converting my basement room into a grow space and I was wondering....


1. With those stats listed in the thread title, how many plants do you think I should fit in there for optimum results?

2. For flowering should I bust out 2 600w HPS as opposed to the 1x600w HPS I will be running for veg (Unless it becomes apparent it isn't enough light coverage) ?

3. I have the entire room sealed off with panda film (Floor to ceiling), you guys ever use this stuff?

4.I mixed blood meal into the foxfarm ocean forest/happy soil combination I made for the plants right now, was this a good idea to keep them vegging as long as possible? I plan on letting them get to about 6 feet before flowering since thats all I have room for really .

5. Whats a good way to make sure I have no problems with insects such as spider mites? Like I said, my room is almost completely sealed off but, is there still a risk ??

6. Some clones I got seem to have white powder on them which I have resolved previously last harvest with peroxide, can you over do it with peroxide/water?

7. Has anyone had hands on actual experience using C02 with yeast/sugar? Has it worth it? WOuld an actual C02 generator be better? Or worth the price I should say.

8. Should I add a vent or fan?


Any helpful advice or comments are welcomed.

By the way the tall 3 are sour diesel and the other two are grape kush.

give you plants no less than 50w per sq/ft. so 12 small plants per 600w. or less bigger plants.

6 feet is for outdoor, the light is only good for maybe 3 feet. After that the light is too week. Much better is to grow a lot of plants and not let then be more than 2 feet tall.

mold! shit. mites and mold are the biggest crop reducers. keep on top of that

dont bother, or use co2 tanks, but this is low importance compared to everything else.

I only see a few plants there, how many are there?

I don't have that much experience myself, but you definately want to put your plants into the flowering stage before they reach six feet because they will continue to grow significantly.

As for the number of plants, well that is a tricky question. If you decide to grow larger plants then they will need a lot of room to branch out. Assuming your pots are a foot across and you want to give them three inches on each side, then you could have six plants running the length, or ten feet side, of your room and five plants running the width, or the eight feet side, or your room making for a total of thirty plants. If you change you mind and decide to do a sea of green (check your state laws first because some places are tougher on more plants), then you could easily fit eighty plus plants into the room.

You may possibley want to consider more light too. Optimal light 7,500 lumens per square foot in your vegetation stage and 10,000 per square foot in your flowering stage. Check the lumen output on your bulb and use the inverse square law. To do this divide the number of lumens by the number of feet your light will be from the plants squared. For example: 75,000 lumens/3 feet squared=75,000/9=8,333 lumens per square foot. Hope this helps.

Alright so do you think I could grow them taller if I used 2x600w HPS ? Otherwise I suppose I could do more shorter plants but I didnt really want to do it that way.

The HPS light is only good for 3 feet even with all the reflective paper?

I only have 5 clones in there right now but I am gettin more purple soon. Sour diesel is a shitty yielder but the smoke is great, so purple is going to be better for me I think.

light looses 75% of it's intensity for every foot traveled...

So a foot away, you have 25% of the light... another foot and you are running 25% of that 25%... and so on... by the time 6' have gone by... you are not getting light past the first couple of feet...

As for the reflective material, yes it will help... A LOT... but it doubles the distance traveled, when the light has to go to the wall and then come back...

Sure you could use one 600 on top and 0ne on the bottom... but you would be much better off growing more, smaller plants...

to maximize with 2 600w lights and 5 clones may be hard. If you bend them they get bushy and stay short. I would grow your 5 plants to 3 feet and the whole time try and take clones, when you can get a lot of clones you should grow like 30 or 50 plants and go in to budding as soon as you can. That is how to maximize production.

one thing to consider about a long veg time is the longer you veg the bigger the chance something will go wrong, and even big plants that die before being ready are not worth anything much. So if you make a mistake and kill all your plants every 6 months you still get buds if you have 3 month cycles. make sense?

I am going to get more clones so thats not a problem but I will also be keeping a mother as well if all goes as planned,
